Just caught the story on FOX. Seems United Airlines decided to bump a 90 yr old WW II vet on his way to the Pearl Harbor Ceremony off hjs flight. He and 40 other passengers were removed to allow for the weight of extra fuel. He explained who he was and why he was going to Hawaii. Now common sense would say "we need to get this gentleman to Pearl Harbor" at 90 he may not make the next one. Anyway I would walk before I gave United another penny. Unbelievable!

Yeah, it sucks he got involuntarily bumped and its bad PR for United that their customer service people at LAX didn't do more to accommodate him.

BUT:

FoxNews.com article said:
Shatz arrived in Honolulu just before midnight and in time for the ceremony.

That's a LOT of water to fly over so having enough fuel is, well, essential...though bumping 41 passengers would seem to indicate the 737-800 a bit marginal for that kind of trip.

They should have the courtesy to trade him with other passenger. The entire story make no sense. Why sell a ticket if the airplane cant carry the weight of the people and the cargo if it is fully fueled? As time passing most airlines are treating passengers worst and worst. The others are not better either.
