Well I'm glad that he didn't get bent over in open court the way our system would do it. I've got to believe that after 6yrs of this torment, having it come down to a few hours of testimony has got to be almost anti-climactic.
Hopefully the court returns with a swift and just verdict and Eddie and his mates get some much needed justice.

We've talked a few times now, since the 'big day'. Let's just say that 'Our Man In Ireland' is still winding down.

And down and down and down. He's realizing all-at-once just about everything that they'd all gone through over the years. All over again.

It's making him very angry now, whereas before it was mostly concern for his family. I told him that it was compared to eating a bushel of apples, one bite at a time. Then throwing the whole lot up, all at once.

But in the years that we have spoken, he hasn't sounded this calm or 'at ease', ever. His family is 'winding down', too. The anticipation of the final decision is still a lingering "Sword of Damocles", but at least this huge milestone has been surpassed.

(personally, I/we here kinda know what he's going through, as our situation lasted 63 weeks. That in itself was massively devastating for us, to go that long "incomeless".) At the same time, our situation is/was miniscule compared to theirs.

And in the end.... who really can compare or relate to what they've all gone through, and ARE still going through. Who knows how long it will take of the High Court to release their decision. Could be days, could be weeks, could be months.

Eddieo's thought process of "what to do next" is so much in limbo now... simply due to the fact that the previous goal had simply been to 'get to that day'.

What says you all, to him? I'll continue to pass along anything and everything ya'll want to share.

Sean, I think over the years we've pretty much "said it all", but please along our mad respect and best wishes for Eddie's future. It'll certainly be nice to have him back on the forum if he's so inclined. I remember when he said he was going dark, and I don't think any of us expected it to be for this long.

NO justice system should be like this, with a person presumed innocent having to work their ass off to clear their name, while the prosecution can skate by with a half-assed effort and lies.
We all need to take heed of this case. We are not that far behind.

In my experience this is far more common that most people would believe.

I just got off the phone with him, and he is pissed. As things stand right now, Christmas for them has been cancelled/postponed.

    Background story:
This past summer (August) Ed and Family has spent some time at a friends place in Spain. They were there for a few days. Actually, I think it was just over a week, but I forget. Point is, while he was gone, he had the vehicle stored in a garage.

He's just been informed today, that he needs to pay E2,250 (Euro's) tomorrow, or his insurance company is cancelling the insurance on his vehicle. (he drives, ergo the vehicle IS his livelyhood) Reason for this charge. The penalty for not reporting an alleged "hit and run accident, to which there was E2,250 in damages to the other vehicle. And the 'now' part is a portion of the penalty for not reporting said accident (allegedly) ).

The problem with this all, and all this, is that the alleged accident supposedly happened AND was reported (to the police) by the other driver, all while Ed and Family were in Spain.

And the way the insurance system works there, is he needs to pay this, then they'll investigate, and if what he says (and proves with boarding passes etc) then they'll "re-imburse him the fees". After the fact.

In the meantime, for him to continue driving and keeping the vehicle on the road, he needs to pay this tomorrow.

Amongst many other things, I have told him numerous ways, and in many different terms, to get the hell out of that god-forsaken country.

He'll be bringing representation with him, when he starts to deal with this tomorrow. He'll also be demanding that the person who filed the false police report and the false accident report be prosecuted.

    Thoughts?

All I know is what I have read here.... But I suspect the corruption runs deep... Real deep. He and his family will be dealing with this shit for a long time. My advice would be to leave or be forever persecuted... No matter what the courts say.

"It's gonna be a cold God-Damned day in Hell before I let those MutherFuckers beat me! And I'm well aware that the first step that I put out of line, they're going to arrest me. Therefore, I'm not going to put a step out of line."

"Our Man In Ireland" just informed me tonight, that he'd been notified on Wednesday that Chief Superintendent Ward is under investigation by their Internal Affairs (IA), regarding the phone taps.

    It is continuing.

To make up for the insurance debacle, Eddieo has been working anywhere from 14 to 20 hours a day, for the past 10 days. He'll come out golden whenever it ends, but in the meantime, nobody can postpone or delay the arrival of Christmas Day, right?

The process continues. Here is another Garda member whom was arrested and charged with over 200 counts of receiving corrupt payments. This is one of "them" who've been after Eddieo and the boys.

Just thought ya'll might like some good news, to start the New Year off right! More to follow.

Ok, so the "bringing this over from 'the other place' didn't work EXACTLY as I wanted, but this is good enough to keep going. We're now into Part five of this ordeal, and it just keeps getting thicker, deeper, and convoluted'er.

"Our Man In Ireland" called today, with some interesting and somewhat 'breaking' news, (no High Court decision yet) and I'm awaiting his email containing news-links and his summation.

Otherwise, things over there are definitely going better than they were for the past how-many years, but the holding pattern is at the same time "nerve-grating." More to follow.

Thanks Sean, hopefully our man will be swimming in victory beer by St Paddy's day

Well guys, (and gals) I just got an email tonight from Eddieo.

The decision from the High Court is going to be read on Monday! Ya'll can imagine what he's feeling right now, for sure. All of them.

This has been an absolutely unbelievable situation,
and it has dragged on and on and on for EddieO and his family.
As others here have pointed out, the storyline is made for a movie.
The plot and actions of his oppressors demands some serious punishment for their behavior.
I've followed it from the beginning and pray for some positive closure and compensation for our Irish brother.

So what is the back story

Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

There are Parts 1 through 4 spread between this site and scout. Now we're back here.

Eddieo sent me this link, to which he was trying to explain to me a few days ago, how this is connected or related to the boys' ordeal. (you ever try to follow along closely to an exited Irishman speaking a mile-a-minute? For a bit there, I thought I was watching Snatch again :D )

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-new...n-days-that-toppled-a-taoiseach-35458039.html

So bear with me, I'm not exactly sure how it fits, but he finished by saying that not only has the Prime Minister there been given 5 days to resign (by his cabinet), but the An Gardai Siochana Commissioner also has been requested to step down. (that is their Federal Police Force)

I just tried doing a search here, for how this all originated, and I got nothing on the title "Upcoming Legal Action" and I went as far back as '08. Nothing searching Eddieo's name, either.

    Short version:
Eddieo's home was raided, he was detained, and all his firearms were confiscated.
Ed was released without getting his firearms back.
He found out that many of his other shooting club members were going through the same thing.
They all (obviously) were working to get their firearms back.
The police over there started 'investigating' the boys, and then started laying bogus charges on them.
The boys obviously fought all charges (with lawyers).
The police stepped up their attack.
Some of the boys were assaulted (in their homes and vehicles) and their families were threatened.
The boys continued their defense, and started investigating on their own.
(We're not just talking about one or two 'bad' officers, over there. I will say though, that there are more than one or two "good" officers there)

That is the VERY short version of how this all started, somewhere around 6 years ago. Eddieo was a member here. (And yes, we're talking about Ireland here, not North America)
Many, many things have happened since, incredible things have been learned, and ridiculous things have been exposed. On the police officers, that is. And a few of the supervisors have already lost their jobs.
This whole case has gone to the High Court over there, to which 3 judges presided, and that date was Dec 1 of last year. Their decision on the case will be read Monday.

To culminate a short sub-ending here, Eddieo and ALL the boys got ALL of their firearms back a few years ago. None of them are in jail, and none of them have any pending charges against them. This has all to do with a (not small) group of very corrupt members of An Gardai Sciochana.

I'm not doing this any justice, my memory sucks to begin with (due to my own issues) and this has been going on for a number of years now. When he had to step away//lay low publicly, we've kept in touch often, and I keep refreshing the thread that he started.

    And here's where we stand:
Eddieo and the boys won on all counts. More specifically, ALL of the claims against them (made by the cops) have been vacated by the courts.
(I stand corrected for my statement in my previous post, I misunderstood)
The judges said that the police vastly exceeded their authority.
The superintendent is being dismissed, as are at least 4 other officers (or employees therein, such as 2 from disability benefits).
(the legal system over there definitely works differently than it does over here)
The judgement included 100% costs to the boys, which means that the police department needs to pay for all court costs and all lawyer/barrister costs for both sides. (over 3 mil euro's alone)

As I understand this now, this allows Eddieo and the boys to 'fight back' with their own case, against the cops, and using ALL of the evidence and testimony put forth in this previous case, to establish their own side/case type thing.

That is where 'penalties and damages and the like' would be decided FOR our group of musketeers. AND, they don't have to be there for this to happen. In other words, Eddieo will be chatting further with his wife as to where they are going to be living. And if he has to travel, to attend and/or watch a court case, so-be-it.

He has taken the day off, just so that he could be at home with his kids.

Damn that's great news, but if I'm understanding things, they've basically just "won" to a stalemate? Now Eddie and boys get to go on the offensive and sue the Garda for punitive damages?

Really glad to hear that things are finally going Eddieo's way.
I hope he and his friends take the corrupt bastards to the cleaners in court and the area is rid of a bunch of corrupt cops. It would be good to see a bunch of them in jail.

As I understand it, your statement is "sorta/kinda" correct, except for the 'stalemate' part. The boys have definitely won,,, and the police have definitely lost... but the way the Irish court system works I'm still not clear on.

It seems that they boys now get to present to a judge (or panel of judges, as was this case?) using all the proven evidence and testimony entered.... as to what the awards and damages should be based on.

Right now, the only 'monies' changing hands is that all the boys lawyers and barristers fees are covered (which has been a lot) so now anything that they do will be gravy, and the more's the better for all around.

And with all the evidence of wrongness (charges) let alone the evidence of wrongdoings by the police (corruption) there's A LOT to be dealt with, some are going to jail, and more are losing their jobs.

This is how I understand things are, in discussions from Our Man In Ireland. I stand by, to be corrected. I'm just happy for them, and proud of them. Big Time.

Thanks Sean, that clears things up a bit. I appreciate it. I think we're all looking forward to Our Man rejoining the community. I'd love to see the news articles when all the heads finally roll.
This is the kind of whoopass one can expect when you harass an Irishman to the point that he has to set down his pint and stand up from the bar stool. They should've known better.

    Outstanding!
I hope this gives him some relief from the mental stress he and his family have endured.

We need to get together and fight for out rights here. Ya'll do see what one man, or a small group of men in Ireland accomplished. If we don't band together here we will be in the same boat before long. Congrats Eddieo!

    Eddie

Drinks still on me if you make it to Tennessee! I will even find you a place to stay. Just to hear how it all went down.

I'de be real proud to have Eddieo as a neighbor, but even if he uses his settlement to move to the USA I doubt very much that he will decide to move to NY.

This is great to hear. Regarding the automobile issue, was that determined to be a bogus claim filed by a friend of one of the officers?

Tell Eddie that we at Snipers Hide are most impressed with him and his comrades.

    c1Steve, I'll tell him.

Remind me though, "automobile issue"? Which/what was that? There's been SO MUCH over the past number of years, and I have a hard time remembering yesterday!

This one: "He's just been informed today, that he needs to pay E2,250 (Euro's) tomorrow, or his insurance company is cancelling the insurance on his vehicle.

After the fact."

ah, thank you Steve. Here is Ed's response:

"Had to pay the 2500 To my insurance company shrike they ascertained if I was in the country which I was not . Still haven't gotten it back .."

The first thing that came to mind is that quote " there comes a time to hoist the Jolly Roger and start cutting throats ". I know Eddio is a better man than that but the thought likely has crossed his mind. F...! That man has put up with much!
