Okay so a couple of weeks ago I got one dirt cheap as a toy. And after playing with it on my 700 for awhile I have to tell you it is not a bad device.
In the city with ambient light it’s very clear out to 400/500 yards. In the woods with an after market illumination I would feel okay taking a 250 yard shot for sure.
The other functions are cool as well. The recoil activated video works as advertised. As do the compass, LOS angle indicator, GPS, and two shot zero. The range finder is okay, but my laser is more accurate.
The drawbacks are; it’s heavy (all up my 700 is pushing 20 pounds with the X Sight mounted) and you really need an external battery pack to be out more the an hour (I made one from my back up phone charger battery and a pig tail with a USB on one end and a micro USB on the other).
I only paid $100 for mine. Getting it from an older guy who is divesting his toys. And I have not experienced any of the technical glitches I’ve read about. Would I go to war with it. Probably not. But as a pig killer and general play toy. It’s fun!
