I'm having difficulty with this decision, so any and all input would be appreciated.

Rilfe:
LRB M25 reciever M1A/M14 with 18" barrel
This is my multiple purpose, hunt, plink, SHTF rifle

Optics Choices:
US Optics 1.8-10x37 mm SN-3 w/EREK
or
Nightforce 2.5-10x32mm NXS Zero Stop

I'm curious as to what members have found to be more reliable and which of the 2 has the better glass. US Optics obviously has an objective that is 5mm larger but the Nighforce is illuminated so I consider this a wash pending optical clarity is comparable. Any feed back would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: Help in choosing optics

I have a USO 1.8-10-37mm on the same rifle. I would take the USO all day over the Nightforce.

It has the JNG MOA illuminated reticle. The field of view is much better on it vs. the Nightforce and appeared much brighter to my eyes. EREK elevation turret speaks for itself. I have shot the rifle to a 1000 yards with that scope with plenty of elevation to spare. Very positive clicks and always returned to zero without a hitch. Great scope for that rifle.

Re: Help in choosing optics

I was in a similar decision point 2 years ago, trying to decided between these exact same scopes for an AR SPR. I ended up going with the USO, which has proved to be one of the best rifle related investments I have ever made. I have since bought a SN3 3.2-17x for my bolt-action.

One negative thing I will say about the USO - they are HUGE scopes. The SN3 1.8-10 Slimline is "slim" in name only.

One huge difference between these scopes is USO's FFP and NF's SFP. You need to decide which direction you want to go here. Don't buy one or the other until you totally understand the advantages and disadvantages of both. If you at all plan to use holds on the reticle and will be using it at less than full mag, FFP is what you want.

Re: Help in choosing optics

I shot with the USO on a LMT and used a 2.5-10 NF in a SCAR recently, i would give my vote to the USO for this match up. "Slim" is definitely just a title though, USO does ensure that when your out of ammunition you can use both the rifle and scope as a club in hand to hand combat.

I also want to throw out the S&B 3-12 police marksman. I've handled these but have never shot one. It's a little more cost but I don't think I've ever heard a customer complain about a S&B PM or seen one come back in returns. Might be another one to look into.

Re: Help in choosing optics

Well, if cost isn't a factor you can go with a S&B, hensoldt whatever. A 10X PM2 or the 3-12 PM2 would lot hot on top of an M1A. However I think the nightforce 2.5-10 would be the best all around choice.

If you're in the Norcal area they are having a 600 yard shoot at sac valley on the 13th. I'm sure there will be plenty of people there to talk to with lots of different scopes for you to look through. Might give you a better idea of what you want or don't want.

Re: Help in choosing optics

I have the NF, but no experience with the USO.

The NF needs parallax adjustment for optimum precision shooting, but it's not an option. Thus, I would look at USO and opt for parallax adjustment if I were buying again.

Re: Help in choosing optics

A M21 Springfield here. I just ordered a USO 1.8-10x37mm T-pal for it. Spendy with all it's available options, but I feel well worth the price considering what I've spent building the rifle. No one else offers this level of optics with everything I wanted other than USO. Pretty much the only choice, without compromising something, for me.
