Beau recently received his Field Spotting scope from US Optics! The team has been anticipating its arrival and looking forward to heading out to the desert with it, so things worked out perfectly with the practice session planned for the weekend. The clarity is excellent and aids in spotting bullet trace and bullet impacts on targets at distance. While there may be more powerful spotting scopes out there, if you consider cost, weight and size I think the US Optics Field Spotting Scope is the best combination of all three.

The fit and finish is excellent, and is exactly what you would expect with any US Optics product. Beau opted to have the scope done in a brown hard anodized finish instead of black, and also included a matching sunshade with ARD(Anti Reflective Device), and screw-in caps for the objective and ocular, as well as their soft-sided zip up case that has room to hold the spotter and a tripod, along with a grip-head and a rifle rest(or whatever other accessories you might like to throw in there.

Re: US Optics Field Spotting Scope

I have a similar unit and agree with your points. I have the GAP-Mil reticle to match my SN-3. I also have the ARD on both. There is not much difference in brightness with the ARD on or off with the SN-3. The spotter DOES get notably darker with the ARD on. I got a plain Sun Shade for it as a result. I also note that it does not allow me to see .30 cal holes in paper at 200 yds. Eye positioning is very critical and somewhat frustrating without patience. I can live with the Chromatic Abberation, as it seems to be a product of correct eye positioning also. Do you notice these things also or is it just me (or my particular scope) ? Please respond as I have no one else to compare notes with. Thanks ! Joe

Two of my team mates have the USO Field Spotting Scopes, one with an ARD and one without. I’ve used them both but haven’t compared them back to back. When I get the chance I’ll try and make the comparison and post it up here. You have a good point and I didn’t even think to compare the two. When were out shooting we usually having one or the other.

I haven’t had many issues with the eye relief of the Field Spotter, I like the fact that it’s a generous eye relief and I don’t have to shove my eye up agents it to use it, especially at higher magnifications. When I’m spotting I’m usually sitting on the ground or standing with spotter mounted to a tri pod and can quickly get a clear sight picture.

During the AZ LRPRS match in Phoenix, Arizona I was able to spot the holes in paper at 300 yards (.264”) on the cold bore target (white target). I noticed when I moved to the dark color portion of the target it was harder to see the .264” holes and could see some of them but not all of them. By that time it was getting hot out there and mirage was increasing. In retrospect it could be related to chromatic aberration but I figured it was the mirage.

I have had a similar experience to yours in regards to the ARD with my rifles scope. When I first got it and headed out to zero it I was comparing it to my Nightforce NXS 3.5x15x50mm. I was surprised the USO was actually brighter and a bit clearer. The NF is SFP and has a larger objective 50mm vs. 44mm. I was pretty surprised considering the USO is FFP has a 44mm objective and has an ARD in the sun shade.
I hope this helps!

How do you like the tripod? </div></div>

I like it! It’s sturdy and not too heavy. The carrying case is really handy too. I breifly mentioned it in the review but I really like the screw on aluminum lens covers.
