From a military sniper standpoint, what is the max. usable distance that one can use a 10x scope for using .308 ammo?

Re: Usable max. distance for 10x

Question is to broad to answer.

Many things matter...
-Conditions
-SoT (size of target)
-Target color compared to background
-Skill of user
-Etc

On E-type sized and shape steel we commonly shot to 1k with the 10x M3A.

To answer your question. What is the typical target for a sniper?

So do hits anywhere on the type E targets count as a hit, or are center mass or head shots the only ones that scored?

If you use the snipers hide search engine or google you will proably find your answear. But you do need to put everything [GUN,SCOPE,AMMO,WHERE YOUR AT, DESERT,MTNS. ETC. AND TARGET SIZE COLOR DAY, AFTERNOON ,or EVENING.} I could go on but hope that info helps ya. Luck

The m3a was nothing fancy but worked well in combat....
