I have a chance to buy a used nightforce nxs 8-32x56 with np-r1, in good condition, with nightforce rings. I heard that nightforce will stand behind there warrenty on used scopes, and almost positive this is true.

I know this is a top quality scope and I can get a new one with rapid turrents for $1700.00 shipped , from a auction gone bad at gunbroker..... won a new nxs 8-32x56 scope(no rapid turrents), but when I went to pay, the scope was missing fron there shop, and they said cant get another one in this model, but they said they would make it right and get me a new rapid turrent model (to me is a nice and cool, but realy not needed for the gun its going on) for same price.

So, my question is, how much is a good price on the used nightforce I have found with rings, or would I be dumb to pass up on the rapid turrent model,I dont know the retail on the new rapid turrent, and just wait the 3 weeks out, for it to come in.

thanks to all

Re: Used Nighforce?

Why the riddle? How much is the used scope? It'll be easier to tell you if it's a good deal knowing the price. $1400?

Are you sure you want the 8-32? It has limited elevation travel compared to the 5-22. Not to talk you out of it, it may be the scope you need, but the 8-32 has limited uses for most guys.

Re: Used Nighforce?

8-32 is alot of mag, it would be great for F class shooting but you might be kicking yourself in the future if you plan to do any sort of tactical shooting or hunting.

Re: Used Nighforce?

Yeah, the rifle its going on it a tactical/target rifle used for long range paper and steel. at 16 pounds a bit heavy to lug around hunting, and if it was to go the 8 power may be a tad bit, but I love the fact that it doubles as a spotting scope when at the range.

Right now the used one is at $1350.00 but in reality the sky is the limit on a auction site.

Re: Used Nighforce?

Jasonk, how are you supposed to shoot the dingle berries off a gnat's ass at a 1000 without adequate magnification??

Just wait till I get this bad boy mounted...

+1 on what YN*Dotte said above. If you're willing to spend $1500, keep your eyes on the Optics For Sale forum here and you should be able to pick one up. Or, you can do as YN*Dotte said and purchase one NIB for $1650.

Re: Used Nighforce?

Used scope went for $1625.00, more than I was willing to spend for used optics( I had no idea that used scopes would hold value like that). Looks like I will be waiting on my new nxs 8-32x56 hi speed turrent to come in.

Thanks for everyones help, and the one joke

When you buy top-shelf quality equipment, it's an investment and it will hold its value.

I'd be willing to bet that your 8-32x is going to be more scope than you need or want but good luck with it anyway.

Your probably right ,but just becouse it goes to 32x doesnt mean I will always use 32x for shooting, but you have to admit the extra power will be nice for cranking up the power to 32x and seeing those bullet holes at long range

Re: Used Nighforce?

I own both the 8-32X56 and the 5.5-22X50. Both have their uses as others have pointed so it depends on how it will be used by the end user. That's for you to decide. I also thought you would be better off with the new Nightforce.

Re: Used Nighforce?

So do you think im making a bad choice not haveing that extra -2.5 power on the low end. How many of you guys shoot long range with your scopes on 5.5 to 8 power? Not trying to step on toes, just a question.

Re: Used Nighforce?

Quite often, especially if I am going from one unknown distance target at close range and working my way out.

One of the best lessons I ever got was when I took a practical field rifle course. I decided to take my CZ 527 chambered in 223 for affordability and ease of shooting a LOT of rounds. Anyway I took the 6.5-20 scope off and put on a 4.5-14 because I knew that we would be shooting quite a bit of close range targets. During the class I noticed that I shot better with lower magnification.

Afterward I took the same rifle prairie dog shooting and my hit ratio was much better than it used to be with the higher magnification. The 6.5-20 scope is still sitting in the safe and the 4.5-14 now has a permanent home.

I have racked my engineering brain to figure out why this is, and I have seen the same thing with many other people.

Re: Used Nighforce?

To tell you the truth for that price i would got for the new scope with high speed turrets and you can choose mil mil or whatever combination you prefer, some times is better and in the long run you eliminate the maybe i should have.

Re: Used Nighforce?

It is nice to know NF scopes hold their value so well. I see it on here all the time....only by the time I see them, they are SPF!!! darn it.
