Is the new digital illumination cell a big improvement over the regular rheostat ? or really not much different......I would assume the rheostat may take more abuse if only for the cap you can have for it.

The new digital rheostat is a huge upgrade from the original design. The brightness is about the same on the top end, but it has more steps in the range. The biggest improvements are, longer battery life, about 100 hours on the brightest setting, water proof to 66 feet, auto shut off after one hour, and a memory. The memory works like this; when you turn on the unit and set it to a desired setting, then turn it off, when you turn it back on it will be at the last setting.
Hope that helps!

One of the first things I noticed about mine was how many settings it had. I almost thought it was broken for a second!

Great, my 3.822's getting back to my doorstep tomorrow....I'll have to send it back in the next lull in schedule!
