They moved the Abraham Lincoln back to Everett yesterday - those things are always impressive!!

If I'm not mistaken, those appear to be Tomcat's on the stern section of the flight deck. The pic's probably more than a few years old seeing as those decommissioned in 2006.

If you look reeeeally close, you can see 41's van next too the tower dispensing taco's to the flight crew....Carne El Gato anyone?

It is CV-67, no N designation as it was not nuclear powered.

You are correct, they are Tomcats. Cannot mistake the swept-back wings. Too bad they were retired. Very high maintenance costs but one of the most capable aircraft to have served.

I was on The Kennedy back in '92 during fleet week in NYC. Believe it or not, The Kennedy is considered small by carrier standards, especially when compared to today's carriers.

Found my mistake- it was my lexdisia, CVN-76 the USS Ronald R Regan is the vessel i was thinking of.

The JFK is a Nimitz class carrier but due to budget constraints was built with conventional power plants instead of nuclear. I was on her in '85 as part of the MARDET.

JFK is not a Nimitz class carrier. It is from the same class as the Kitty Hawk and was commissioned in 1968. The Nimitz was commissioned in 1975. They wouldn't have called it the "Nimitz" class if they were based off the JFK which came online seven years earlier.

Dark Horse hit that one, Kitty Hawk was the last conventional powered aircraft carrier - just retired and I think she's here in our home port (Bremerton).
When you see the Nimitz class carriers next to the old WW2 carriers down in teh yard- whew - huge.....damn near twice as big - taller, longer, wider...

My last cruise on that one to the gulf in 2002 before I retired. Actually only spent about 3 weeks on her. Gotta love being a COD crewman.
