Just got this email. V4 update finally out.

Hello!

This is a group email intended to reach everyone with an AutoTrickler V4. I have just released a new update for the AutoTrickler app, which will likely be automatically installed on your phone / tablet within a day or so if you have automatic updates. This is version 1.2.0. This is the first update since the original release of V4, and it's a big one.

In my last email from January (https://autotrickler.com/pages/jan-2023-update), I asked for feedback. Your excellent responses were very much appreciated. I saved most of them into a document and summarized the key points into a spreadsheet. This provided a helpful, broader understanding of how the AutoTrickler is being used day to day and confirmed that the only change really needed was to improve the calibration and tuning process.

This update is 100% intended to help all of you extract full value from your AutoTrickler and save more time in the reloading room.

1. Calibration. The ideal natural flow rate for most powders is 0.20 GN/s. Now the measured values are displayed in a way that makes it very clear if your flow rate is too high or too low for best results.

2. Performance. The way that the settings map to motor speed has been massively improved under the hood. You should find, once tuned, that it will run faster especially near the end of the cycle. There is also a new "buffer" setting which can be adjusted separately from the overall speed to slow down a little earlier and avoid overshooting with larger kernel powders.

3. Help. There are two Help screens which provide a detailed explanation of the settings. I encourage you to read this carefully and experiment to learn the effect of changing each setting. With a solid understanding of how it works, you will be able to tune for any powder quickly and effectively. Always remember you can email me at any time and ask questions or send a video and I am happy to explain further.

4. Profiles. You can now save up to 5 profiles which record a name, the target weight and each of the four tuning values. This should make it easier to switch back and forth between powders. Remember to calibrate after changing powders, and use a separate loading book to remember what your target weight should be.

On my test bench, I have three V4's set up and I often test with CFE223, Varget, H4350, N150, N170, and N570. I have found that all powders work best with a flow rate of 0.20 GN/s. All of these powders will flow at close to that speed with the same tilt angle, except N570. When switching to N570, I place a shim under the back of the scale's rear center foot which lifts the scale and tilts the entire assembly forward. This can be removed when using any other powder. After calibrating and verifying the flow rate is in the correct range, I run a few short cycles to let the powder settle in the tubes, then adjust from the settings shown above as necessary depending on which part of the cycle needs it.

I plan to record a video in a few weeks' time where I will demonstrate the tuning process and how AutoTrickler V4 is meant to run with a variety of powders. I won't send out an email just for that, but I will probably update the app to include a link to the video.

Once again, please email me for honest, accurate answers if you have any questions, concerns, feedback or need help with your AutoTrickler.

Thank you!

Adam

go into settings and then apps, find the autotrickler app and you should get an option to update in the store.

According to the App Store version 1.1.0

not on iPhone 14
According to the App Store 1.1.0
is the newest version.
I bet it is just for Android right now with iphone to follow.. I did not see it mentioned in email.

Can't wait to give this a try. I have talked to him a few time about patential upgrades and it seems to have most of them.

Thanks for the heads up. Updated mine and will have to load something up this weekend to see how I like the improvements.

Thanks for posting the email. I can't find the update. iPhone 14. App Store says 1.1.0. Guess I'll wait....

same here on the European Apple App Store. Seems like just an Android affair for the time being.

It will be interesting to see how this update works with and without the tip. I doubt Adam's testing was with a tip installed.

Just loaded 81.0 grains of H1000 for a .300 Norma using the new app. Average time for the drops was 10 seconds with 3 overages out of 30 rounds; 1 drop was 7 seconds and another at 12 seconds. I started the time when I placed the pan on the scale so included in the drop times is the time it took for the scale to zero and start the large tube drop; each of the charges that were over were by a single kernel.

The new calibration screen is easy to manipulate and once understood allows one to teak the speed of the drops by each tube to to his desired speed vs accuracy goal. The ability to save the settings in a profile will make things easier as well.

In my opinion, the updated app does give reloaders more control over drop speeds and the ability to adjust them to meet their accuracy needs.

He has my tip, stated it worked better without the tip after the update which is fine by me! But also asked I try with and without to confirm.

Just loaded 200 rounds 5.56 with AR Comp using the new software (and no tip). Was pretty easy to tune. Ended up with drops at 9-10 seconds average with an overthrow every 20 rounds or so once I quit tweaking it. So far, I like the new software - especially the "buffer" setting.

Just checked my app on my IPhone 13 and it automatically updated the app to the current version.

What size shims are you guys using? I do not know where to start with them.
Thank you,

I'm an android user, found that the app auto updated on my phone. First use was last night and after priming both tubes I calibrated once. Loaded quantity 35 of 6.5 Creedmoor and was very impressed by the speed of each powder drop. Much better at reaching the target weight, quickly. I did have two overthrows of 0.04 grains, but the speed more than made up for the time lost dumping these back.

I have not yet played with any of the settings. Would someone please explain the "buffer" setting? I guess I'm too lazy to open the help function in the app.

What’s the trick for H4350? My V4 seems to overthrow every time.

Send Adam a email. He is great to deal with and will figure out the issue. I don't have settings for the updated app or I would send u what I have. But the V4 can run 4350 with very few over throws.

I just saw Adam this weekend at the Guardian match in New Hampshire. I asked him this very question.

He said you want the small tube to be as close to .2 as possible. He told me to play with the tilt by pushing the front of the scale up using the levelling wheels on the scale. Until I get the small tube where it's dropping close to the .2

I asked about the bubble level in the scale. He said don't worry about it. Not even sure it accurate.

Just like @Andrew863 mentioned Adam said if I had any issues just email him he will respond.

He was great to chat with and very friendly.
