I have a 1999 Colt Cowboy in .45 Colt. Any idea what it is worth in today’s market? Not selling, just curious. Original box reads Colt SAA, but the serial number matches that of this Cowboy.

Colt has collapsed. I think their research department is the only division not loosing money. It’s been a while since an SAA (even a gen 3) went for $500.

Some people think as the Boomers die the bottom will drop out of the SAA market.

The truth is that I like shooting my Vaqueros more than my SAAs. Three clicks is kewl, but the Rugers are tougher and smoother.

I'm sorry I can't offer any current value estimates, or any insightful thoughts for that matter, but that is the first time I have seen a real photo of a Colt Cowboy. I have one myself. Peter Kokalis did a great T&E on that Colt in SOF mag (June 1999) when they first hit the market. He said it was solid. Anywho, I enjoy mine and it gets lots of compliments, since it came from your Grandfather, I reckon it's priceless. I guess I did give an estimate....

Before and after pics of my Colt...

Good luck and good shooting!

Who did you give do all the engraving on that?

Full disclosure.....ahem...barrel is not engraved, just some crayola rubbed into the existing stamps. The grips were engraved by a local shop. Not very original I suppose, I guess I watched too many Clint Eastwood movies....I did the painting myself with Sharpie paint pens. As you can tell, I'm very high tech! Grips are Hogue which were oversized to start, the SAA models always are, and I fitted them with sandpaper and a dremel,
