New to reloading and was wondering what calibers is Hodgdon Varget good for?
Im mostly going to be reloading .223 Match HP(52gr,62gr,68gr,77gr) ammo what would it work best in?

Also reloading .300 Win Mag. HP Match ammo for long range target, would it also work in that?

To bad I can find it in stock ANYWHERE!

Re: Varget

Varget is an all around good choice of powder. In 223, I have tried it with 55 grains VMAX, 75 AMAX. In 308, it's the powder of choice for just about anything.

For 300 win mag, I would probably recommend something abit slower than that if you want to shoot the heavier bullets.

Re: Varget

I try to use varget as much as possible, no real reason just seems like it works in just about everything I have stuffed it in. I havent tried it in the 300WM though, seems in the mag's I have RL22 or 4350 seems to work well in most.

Re: Varget

Works great in 223's, 308's and midweight bullets in 30-06. For the 300 Winnie you should try to find some RL-22 if you're shooting heavy bullets in the 210+ range.

With the RL-22 in my 06 I get close to the same velocity that most get from the 208's in a 300WM. The stuff is magic I swear. (it's temp sensitive though)

Re: Varget

Varget is good for the heavies in .223, and for .308 and like based cases.

For .300 Win Mag, you'll need a slower powder like H4350, H4831/H4831SC, RL22, H1000 possibly Retumbo if you like shooting heavier 208, 210 +gr pills.
