Versa Pod Battle Pack

Re: Versa Pod Battle Pack

Ive got 8 different bipods and duplicates of several. The only versapod thats worth a darn is the one with the knobs to lock down the different axis. I have two and I wouldnt recommend them. Of course the the Sinclair's F class is way more stable but much less convenient. The Atlas is probably the nicest overall when considering convenience and usability.

Re: Versa Pod Battle Pack

I got one. I don't care for the handstop swivel mount rifle interface, its excessively large, and an additional cost. I'm considering throwing some bar in the lathe to make a spigot and installing it in my stock. The bipod itself is well suited for shots on moving targets, lots of movement without bind in all directions, this of course is a handicap shooting at stationary targets as it is not overly stable. Its will rattle and bang if the cant knob isn't tightened during transport, and it has to be loosened to remove the unit from the spigot. Legs will fold either way with a simple squeeze. They are height adjustable but with a limited number of notches. Swapping legs requires a few seconds and a small phillips.

Re: Versa Pod Battle Pack

I recently got one of the Battle Pack setups, with the 9-12" height bipod. I got the orginal/universal handstop initially, figured it would fit on most guns if I want to swap it around a bit. I'm thinking I'll get the stripped one that fits on a picatinny rail (basically just missing the bulk of the hand stop, so its just the spigot and a clamp to attach to a rail) sometime in the near future.

If you really want things to stay put, you can tighten down the set screws with a screwdriver; otherwise they seem to stay put well enough with just finger tightening. Definitely need a tool to get them loose in the first place though.

About the only thing I have to say I don't like so much just yet is the way the latches for the legs face down when folded forward - one little bump and those spring-loaded legs shoot out. Actually, if you back the set screw out far enough you can launch the feet a good 10-12 feet or so. Not that I ever would try such a thing with the clawed legs...

I haven't got much chance to play with them since we have been getting things lined up for a local match here for the last week or so. The Versapod seems to allow quite a bit of pre-load i.e. you need to really lean into it to take up all the 'slack'. In the limited shooting I've tried with it though it didn't seem to make all that much difference whether it was loaded or not - it seemed to shoot the same.

It's definitely not one I would choose for F-class... but for a field use bipod, where you may need to pan from target to target, that sort of thing... I think it might have some promise.
