In 1989-1990 I was stationed in Geneva.
Friend and I went in town to buy watches.
He bought a Rolex Submariner style watch. I think it was about $2700 or so.
I bought a Revue Thommen
It's in here....Disregard the folded skivvies, at least there is no brown or yellow showing.
There it is....
Cost me I think $2000.
Great watch at the time because I was doing a lot of hiking in the Jura and liked the altimeter feature.
Still just a quartz movement. $60 movement with a $1940 case.
I would have been smarter to buy the Rolex.

I think I knew a few dudes in my former hobby that had the kind of cabbage and interest that would buy that watch for 1/2 mill in a nano second if they could. It's pretty fascinating.

I had the honor to work on a house of a Vietnam veteran who spent about 5.5 years in Hanoi Hilton, when he got back to the states his wife bought him a Rolex (probably not worth that kind of money) he still wears it.
In addition to many other issues with his house he had roofing problems,
Both of us went up so he could show me and he scratched the crystal.
The general contractor was a former employee of mine and he paid for the watch to be repaired.
Col. Xxxx was a F4 pilot and encountered a malfunction somewhere in North Vietnam.
I personally have a Breitling that I bought in the Caribbean about 30 ish years ago.
The first time I wore it (navitimer) I raked the crystal across a case hardened steel chain and was afraid to look, but no damage it's a mineral crystal.
I've used and abused it trains,planes, boats ect. One tough watch (not a safe queen) needs a tune up, new band and cleaning.
Maybe I should trade it in on a AI?
The band alone is about 400. For a real one, a factory tune up is also not cheap.
I think I spend too much on gun porn?

Still regret selling my mid 90's era Submariner that I bought new for $2000. Should've kept that one. But just like guns, I've bought and sold so many that you never think you'll miss 'em.

i think it said he got that much of a discount. not that he paid that much.
