Vintage 06’ bullets??

I recently bought a collection from a widow who’s husband was an avid ww2 weapons collector. In the bunch I got literally 2 30 gallon tubs full of loaded 30-06 fmj ammo, most loaded on m1 garland clips and 03 stripper clips. Also in the bunch though I have a 5 gallon bucket full of .308” bullets, all of which look like they’ve been pulled of varying tip colors. I have orange, red, black and light blue tips. I also have a bunch that the full length of the bullet is painted black, but only half. Anyone have any info on these bullets?

Also I have about 400 boxes of these primers.

Orange tips are generally tracer, black tips are armor piercing, and I'm not sure about blue tips. The primers are probably no good anymore.

Orange and red are tracer. Black AP. Blue is usually a training round(inert). What is the weight of the blue tips.

The following is a list of commonly found colored bullet tips on .30-06.

Black: AP
Black/Silver: AP Plate Test
Blue: Incendiary (also tracer from Argentina)
Green: AP from UK, Tracer from Argentina
Green/White: Frangible
Green/Tan: Frangible
Orange: Tracer
Red: Tracer (also some Incendiary from UK, and AP from Argentina)
Silver: Armor-piercing Incendiary
White: Tracer, unfinished Frangible,
Yellow: Observation and Proof rounds (AP from Belgium)

. I will have to give that some thought. The collection came with a M1917 rifle that I’d love to finish and all three of my boys shoot 06’.

Have seen light blue before as incendiary.

Consider checking the 06 ammo to make sure it is not corrosive primers.

Yup been thinking about that also. I think we’ll only try it in the vintage rifles and keep them clean.
