Heard it through the Grapevine that the powers at be are going to hold a Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA. They got the go ahead to add the M40 and M70's! So knock the dust of your Redfields and Lymans and start practicing for 300 and 600 Yards. This is going to be a CMP ruled Vintage SNIPER Match (with the addition of the M40 and Win M70) so its M48/9's and Shooting off of Rucks. More to Follow!

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

looking foreword to hearing more.....

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

This style of match sounds awesome, my question is, what are the limitations on optics? I have a 98 and a couple of MN's, just wondering if they must have vintage optics or repro or if there were some set of limitations on using newer style optics.

I am more of a puriest on the rifles, than the optics just due to availablitity. Would an older VXII 3-9 Qualify, simple reticle and no click adjust.

Thanks,

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Here is the rule book which will give you the information you're looking for;

http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/Rulebook.pdf

If anyone wants to have a Vintage Sniper Match contact a CMP GSM MI and have him put one on.

I would but I dont know if there is anyone in this area that's interested.

When I put on Clinics/matches I don't precude anyone. I just have different classes. The CMP rules allow it in the Modern Rifle Rules.

With post Korean War rifles you'd be in your own class, and not competing with the pre Korean War Sniper Rifles.

I'm not going to turn anyone away because they can't round up the parts needed to fit the rules. My goal is to get more people shooting CMP GSM matches.

Thanks, I found it. Likely be easier to buy an Mosin already set up and scoped for me. I have seen them for around $700, so that is likely the best route.

Wish I lived closer to Wyoming.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Kraig, what part of WYO do you run your clinics. I have some old MN's and Mausers, and a psuedo-M40(outside CMP rules), would like to attend one. I live exactly 1 hr south of Cheyenne.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Do they still have a ban on anything Russian?

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Roggon, my club is in Newcastle, Weston County Sportsman's Club.

NE part of the state.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Do they still have a ban on anything Russian?</div></div>

Never knew they had a ban on Russian stuff. Mosins are quite common in GSM Matches.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

It was my understanding that Quantico had a ban on all Russian calibers.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Unfortunatly I found out the do have a ban on the russian calibers. Not sure why, but will inquire and let you know.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Do you have a link to the "ban on Russina Calibers" and a link to the Vintage sniper match.

I want to touch base with Orest Michaels on this.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

I have a friend looking into it, as well (lives close by, frequents the range and is who I heard it from).

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

What's the dates, I've never been and would be looking forward to seeing it?

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

The dates haven't been hammered down yet. They had to get permission to do the match and add the m40 and Win 70. Now its waiting on scheduling. Will keep you posted.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

7.62X54R is not allowed at Quantico. Nor is 7.62X39 and 5.45X39.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Heck, far's I'm concerned, a 7.62x39 ain't nuttin' but a .311PPC wearin' War Paint...; the 5.45x39 is a .220PPC, and I wouldn't be too surprised if someone could fireform a .307 Win headstamped cartridge to fit a 7.62x54R chamber.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Kraig,

When do you usually put on your shoots. I dont have anything that fits the bill yet, but that dont mean I cant try to get something together.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

hey, Red Jacket makes 1000 yard AK sniper rifles, maybe CMP will reconize them.

LOL! I have my doubts about both parts of that sentence.

I have a Vz-54/91 which shoots 7.62x54R. A surplused Czech sniper rifle. And I live 20 minutes away. If I bring PPU ammo, would they have a problem with it or what? Are they worried about steel core ammo?

Jim

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

It's my understanding that they have banned whole calibers, across the board, with no regard to ammo type.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Thanks, Kraig. I've passed this info along to my friend, too. Maybe I can convince him to buy a Mosin sniper, now.

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

Just got the Word that the Lift is true, the russian ammo is GTG. So Fire up those Nagants and see whose 30 cal is King!

Re: Vintage Sniper Rifle Match at Quantico, VA

That would be an interesting match to go see! Any idea on dates???
