It'll work! The rules permit the use of a K.98 in 8x57mm (8mm Mauser...the largest caliber permitted in the VSR matches) with either the ZF4, ZF39, or ZF41 scopes, or they will also allow use of the Weaver K4 since the other scopes can be a PITA to come by. As long as the base rifle is a K.98, you use one of the scopes provided above in an original or replica mounting system found on the K.98, and you comply with the other rules relating to "as issued" condition, etc.

I'll miss this years shoot but next year plan on shooting Camp Perry with my M1903A4, should be fun, not what i consider to be a real Sniper match but still fun to get out and shoot these old girls.

Vintage indeed I was deployed when I wrote the above post. Was more than 8 years ago but seems like a life time.
Since this vintage thread was resurrected, I will note the CMP is now running about 4 or 5 of 'vintage sniper rifle/ matches per year:
CMP Western Games: Phoenix, AZ, and is usually Mid-March (2020 draft schedule: http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2020-Western-Games-Draft-Schedule.pdf )
CMP Eastern Games: Camp Butner, NC (near Durham, NC), and is usually the first week of May (although this year it was late April)
CMP National Matches, Camp Perry, Ohio (near Port Clinton), and is usually early to mid August for the vintage sniper match
CMP New England Games was recently added to the schedule, and the vintage sniper rifle match was yesterday, Sept 22, up in Vermont.
(There are also matches at the CMP facility in Talladega, AL, but not sure about the schedule)
