Neck turned 50 virgin Nosler .30-06 shells (ruined 4) to attain uniform neck wall thickness. should I anneal the cases now? Read on Long range hunter that it works the brass enough to need it, is that true?

this set of 50 will be my learing curve i guess.....

Re: Virgin Brass+neck turning+annealing...

Let me state first that at the current time, I do NOT own an annealing machine. I have depended on a friend to anneal my brass for me.

But in years past I have fireformed the brass. Trimmed to the same length. Then neck turned to the propper wall thickness. I have fired as many as 20 reloading cycles before having the brass annealed.

But if I had access to an annealing machine of my own I would probably do it a lot more often.

well thats the big question. It seems that there is a variety of opinion on it so I'm just trying to help lower my learning curve on this.

I FLS, then neck turn, trim, etc. & fire. I have never annealed any of my brass. So far I have several hundred 300WM with 7 cycles on WW brass that way. I'm thinking about annealing soon, but haven't seen a need yet.

I would anneal after you get some firings on the brass. There is no rule from what I have seen on when to anneal. Some people do it after every firing, some people do it every 10th. Me personally, when I full length resize, I anneal too, which is about every 4th or 5th firing since I only neck size between firings.
