So I’ve searched through multiple past posts, and I know the consensus is most prefer load development with fire formed brass, as the added velocity with fire formed has kicked them out of their node (found with virgin brass) and they had to reduce their load to get back into it. My question, is was their new node at the same velocity as their old node, or atleast very close? Asking, because if that’s the case, then wouldn’t load development with virgin brass still gain you knowledge, by telling you what velocity your barrel liked with those components? And would just take a slight modification and reverification once all brass was formed?

That’s the hope but the only way to know is to test it regardless.

It’s not just duplicating velocity but some cartridges like 308 typically have a wide sweet spot. If you find a node with virgin brass it’s likely the fired case sweet spot will be very close if not the same. It can very depending on the specific rifle’s chamber. So what usually works is to find the sweet spots with virgin brass then revisit those loads with fired brass to pick the load..
