Any idea which one would be better to buy? It appears that pretty much the only difference is the illuminated reticle. Scope will be going on a .22 for hunting and maybe some nrl22.

This isn’t what you are asking for, but why not a used XTR II? You’d be close to the same price but have a better scope.

There is about a 200 dollar price difference between the two.
Seems like an awful lot of scope for hunting with a .22.
In the price range you are looking for, if you are using it for hunting, you'll need an illuminated reticle.
I demo'ed a strike eagle, the glass was quite good but not good enough to support hunting in the early morning or late evening without illumination.

Only difference is not illumination. Strike Eagle also has locking turrets and 31mils/110MOA versus the Venom 25mils/85 MOA. Both have zero stop which limits travel to 18 mils/42 MOA but if you put it on a 30-40 MOA base it shouldn't be needed.

The Venom would be a good choice for NRL22. Glass is close to SE and will do what you need for the game. It might work for your hunting depending on what you need from it. Below are some pics of the Venom on my rifle and the SE next to it for a size comparison.

    Element optics Titan
    Vector Optics Continental
Both better than Vortex in similar price range with same warranty like Vortex typical of disposable Chinese scopes , where its cheaper to throw it in a trashcan and replace it with new one than repair anything.

So you've compared all three side by side? I'd be curious to hear your review.
