I've done a lot of research on the internet comparing different types of scopes and narrowed my decision to the Vortex Optics Viper PST 4-16x50 and the Viper PST 6-24x50 both with MOA reticles and second focal plane.

What I'm looking for in this post is feedback from personal experience with either of these scopes.

the 4-16x50 will be going on a .308 bolt gun
the 6-24x50 will be going on a .300 Win Mag bolt gun

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Re: Vortex Optics?

sounds like your all squared away. imo you cant do any better in the same pricerange than the vortex. the only comparision is the sightron. but i like the vortex better. plus it will be nice for you to have the same reticles on both rifles

Re: Vortex Optics?

I already have the base on my rifles.
Both bases have 20 MOA built into them.
I know that the two Vortex scopes don't have as much adjustment as other scopes but from what I have read there aren't many bad reviews and the reviews that are bad are from people that don't even own them.
I'm just trying to get all the info I can before I spent the money.

Thanks to everybody that has commented so far.

how can you feel durability?

Re: Vortex Optics?

I have the 4-16 MOA SFP scope on a GAP M40A3. I also have a Vortex Razor in MOA too. I like the scopes a lot and find the PST to be a very versatile optic to use. I love the reticles as they are easy to use and read. The zero stop set-up with the spacers is OK as it works but I wish it were more like the Razor but then it would be more expensive. They are at the correct price point for us to get a decent tactical scope that is Mil/Mil or MOA/MOA. I like the PST's and would buy another anytime. Vortex has the one of the best customer service in the industry.

Re: Vortex Optics?

I own two 6-24's. I have some minor gripes about them; turrets could be stiffer. I wiped out the gob of grease which helped a bit. Eye box gets tight at 20x and up. I keep getting debris inside on one of them. Been sent in once already and will need to go back, again. Vortex will handle it but its still a PITA. Overall its a good buy; good glass, nice reticle, repeatable and accurate adjustments, zero "reminder", illuminated, and awesome Vortex warranty.

How is the debris getting inside the scope? Or is it just appearing like it was already in there?
Just wanting to know what to look for.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Vortex Optics?

I've talked to a few of the Vortex reps over the past few days and asked a bunch of questions just trying to get all the info I possibly could.
What's real nice with this company is the fact that they actually answer the phone and are very willing to talk.
To top it all off they stopped packing for the biggest money maker of the year in their industry (the Shot Show) to talk and answer my questions.
That says a whole lot for their dedication to customer service.

I have the 4-16, Ffp, moa on my 308. It's been a great scope. It's on my savage model 10. It's helped me be as accurate as any high dollar stuff at two different shooting events.
I'm also looking at the 6-24 for my 300wm. I'm just on the fence because I've also been looking at a USO or S&B for it and making it my one time expensive scope purchase.

Been running a Razor HD on my match gun (.308) for a couple years, love it. Also have a Diamondback on an air rifle that chewed up several airgun-rated scopes, and so far it's working great. Good people to deal with and great service.

i use a 4-16x50 viper pst ffp. good scope for the money...has good features and cant be beat it for the money (new) as everyone says...i have a mark 4 4.5-15x50 which i prefer...both are on 308's... i have used them side by side at the range and my leupold has much better glass and is way brighter...i also prefer eye relief on leupold..thats my personal prefrence as it took me a little while to get used to viper...i would search for a used leupold over viper if i were in the market (again) for a tactical scope for around 1k or less. they show up on optics for sale section all the time. good luck with whatever you get and remember at the end of the day it comes to personal prefrence

Vortex is the best scope out there for the money my local optics dealer says his sales on nightforce and zeiss have gone way done and sells more vortex than anything and you cant beat the warranty I own 2 and I have owned nightforce scopes and the vortex glass is better and the vortex always goes back to zero for me.
