Vortex PST

They just dropped some new viper scopes so maybe that why?? I’ve seen them on sale several times around that price.

More than likely it's an older discontinued reticle like the ebr7d or something. Those are the only ones I've ever seen on sale regularly. Vortex typically doesn't enforce MAP on discontinued products.

Anyone know how pst compares to the new viper hd scopes?

Not many videos out yet. I'm thinking about getting a new scope and have been bouncing back and forth from nightforce shv, burris xtr iii/pro/veracity ph/ optika6. But that price for the pst2 at midway is honestly keeping me interested.

Yes, I’m pretty sure the new Viper HD scopes are replacing the PST2. But maybe @Scott_at_Vortex can confirm?
The Viper HD's are replacing standard Vipers,Viper HS. The PST's are a different line. The Midway scopes, as someone mentioned above, are discontinued reticles which is why they are on sale. Hope that helps.

That’s a crazy good deal. Midway sale Viper PST Gen 2, 5-25x50mm.

Has this reticle:

At this price, I'm really tempted to make the jump from MOA scopes... been hard swallow replacing them all. I know it's not alpha tier, or even alpha adjacent, but good glass for $600 when needing to replace 6 or 7 scopes as a poor.

Well I looked through and picked up a viper hd today. So time will tell
Thoughts on the glass? What would you say it compares to? Better than the PST G2? I haven't heard of anyone looking through one yet, but obviously you were impressed if you bought it.

It's a solid scope for sure. It's the best "throw it on the spare rifle" scope I have. It never has a permanent job, but it serves its purpose incredibly well as a "substitute teacher".

It was definitely clear. Didn't seem to get dark around the edges at higher power. I did notice some CA looking at a tower about 600+yrds from my driveway and it was very clear though. Eye relief seems good. But I am changing from a leupold 3x9. Turrets seem very positive definitely not as heavy as a pst2. I will get some range time tomorrow. Take my review with a grain of salt. I'm a glass poor fudd shooting a Savage. Best glass I have is a nightforce nxt that I haven't looked through in a couple years. As long as it tracks reliably it will suit my purpose. I don't shoot competitively.

Don't overlook this solid scope. I replaced quite a few Viper HST 6-24x50's with these, and didn't look back. 👍🏼

that does not look fudd friendly lol for metal gong bangin at 300 yards ....and i am a fudd
It’s ultra-Fudd friendly since you don’t need to dial. 300yds will be somewhere around 1 mil of drop with most centerfire rifle cartridges.

You just use that first stadia line of drop and you can hit the gong with ease.

They have both MOA and Mil versions on that sale.

Not sure if it's me coming from a 3x9 to a 5x25. But seemed hard for me to get behind at highest mag. Pics are at 5,10,25 trying to hold my phone steady. Take it with a grain of salt. Windy and overcast conditions

Those images look really good actually. The bezel seems to almost disappear.

What I’ve found with any high magnification optic is that my adjustable cheek piece on the stock needs to be set up for ideal eye placement relative to the center of the exit pupil. Just because of the math behind how small the exit pupil gets when you dial-up, you have to be centered.

At 5x, you have a 10mm exit pupil (50/5 = 10)
At 10x, you have a 5mm exit pupil.
At 25x, it’s only 2mm.

Exit pupil equals objective lens diameter divided by the magnification.
