Rifle Scopes Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

They are a good red dot for the money I have had 3 of them, the only con I can think of is there is a chance you may have trouble with it, but if you do Vortex will make it right.

One of mine went to crap. So ifs you want something you can depend on I would look elsewhere, for a plinker its hard to beat.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

It's ok for what you pay.

The dots on the two I had were plenty sharp, the controls worked and battery life was acceptable. They took hard use and bouncing around pretty well without moving point of impact. THe controls were hard to use with gloves on, I ultimately didn't care about red/green (unless it was a TV show) and just wanted a damned on/off. The optical doubler was a nice idea but pretty worthless. For running around the range and the occasional zombie, perfectly fine. No issues with it on either a FAL or an AR, and even had one on a Marlin 45-70 for a season. I never worried about witnessing to irons.
I did send one back to Vortex for repair because our cat chewed a hole in the rubber covering the switches. Vortex replaced it. Would I buy another one? Sure, for plinking and playing they are fine. For anything 'serious' (like a 3 gun match) I would probably go a little higher end.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I just picked up a red/green from a buddy. Seems very solid and the price is unbeatable.

Pros:
PRICE
Lifetime transferable warranty
Red/green dot with NV
Comes with mount
Comes with lens caps

Cons:
Battery life "if you're used to aimpoint"
4 MOA dot
Mount seems kind of cheap
Comes with a doubler but it limits field of view badly

I really like it. Its no aimpoint but if it stops working just call up vortex and they'll replace it for life for FREE! Cant beat that

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I agree with what everyone said, If it is just for gun go for it but if you are gonna rely on it I would maybe look elsewhere. I had one on a rifle I sold and the unit went out twice, but Vortex had a new one at my door in 3-4 days each time with no questions asked and a prepaid label to send my damaged unit back AFTER I received the replacement unit.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I just mounted one for a friend on his AR. Looked/felt solid enough. I personally run an Aimpoint PRO and wasn't anywhere near wanting to trade it out for the Strikefire, but I think it'll easily get you where you want to go.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I have 2 Comp M4s and an EOTech, so I'm not afraid to pay for a good optic (especially after spending time on this forum), but when I wanted a budget RDS, I went with a Bushnell TRS-25 based on reviews.

Under $100, nice bright red dot (almost as bright as the Aimpoint Comp M4 which is absurdly bright) compact (close in size to an H1 or T1) and reports of units lasting years atop an AK47/74 or AR-15.

For absolute co-witness on an AR, pickup a UTG 3 slot mid height riser for $12 or so. They are amazingly well made for the price and RTZ is excellent. I have tried to break one by over tightening the clamp screw and I can't break it.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I had one on my AR for about 2 years/1000+ rounds of plinking and close range coyote hunting and it did everything I needed it to do. I set it once and never had to change zero even after I left it in the back of my truck and drove across a very rough field to pick up a yote. The only reason I don't still have it is bc I went with a magnified optic. I sold it to a friend and he loves it too.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

Got two of them. No problems, holds zero, very clear dot. A bit heavy and the battery sucks, but I can buy 4 of them for the price of an Aimpoint. Pretty much echo everyone here. Good value, great warranty, solid quality

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

mine has been pretty solid and rode on many different rifles and shotguns . my only complaint is the buttons can turn on while riding in a guncase and run the battery down . the solution is carry a spare battery just in case . I had a major dissapointment deer hunting when I brought my rifle up to fire and the battery was dead . it now sets on my mk1919 shotgun and is handling heavy buckshot and slugs with ease .
it survived my 458 socom through about 500 rounds .

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I have one on top of my M4gery. I had an EOtech, but sold it because I needed quick cash. Replaced it with a well used Vortex and have been plenty happy with it since. Its no EOTech, but it surely does the job well.

My only complaint is it uses the funky CR2 battery.. I wish they had it using the CR123A batteries like all of my flashlights.. I just buy a lot of batteries and always keep a couple fresh ones in the MOE Grip.

All in all though, after taking it on a pig hunt and multiple trips to the range, I would feel safe in relying on it and recommending it to others.

Re: Vortex Strikefire worth a shit?

I bought one 2 years ago and Have never had to re-zero. The magnifier it comes with is a joke but the optic itself Seems solid and if I ever do need a warrenty, I'm covered.
