I am looking for a scope for my 6x47L. There are no tactical matches around here so i am going to use my rifle for long range coyote shooting. I would like something with a few hash marks and stick around the $500 area. I was looking at the Nikon monarch with mil-dot or the vortex viper with bdc hash marks. What scope of the two would be the better scope and how are these vortex vipers holding up? Hows the glass? I am leaning towards the vortex maybe a little bit more than the monarch as it would be a 30mm tube, plus the monarch doesnt have a lot of adjustment. both have side parallax and i like that. I just need a decent hunting scope with at least 12-14 power with side focus and some hashes. Any ideas? thanks guys! Lee

Re: Vortex viper. Any good?

I have the 6.5-20x50mm Vortex Viper. There was a thread about these a few weeks ago. I have mine on my 22 trainer. I have the mildot reticle. Glass is very good, to my eyes it is comparable to NXS scopes I have owned. It tracks well and repeats. They have a $50 rebate until Dec. I think I paid $489 for scope and BC flip ups, delivered. I am very pleased with mine and have read that custom service is excellant with Vortex, even tho it is seldom needed.

Re: Vortex viper. Any good?

I had a 6.5-20 for a while. Glass is very good, should make a good coyote scope, though the lack of illumination and thin SFP reticle might be a problem. Didn't have a shit-ton of elevation, but it should be plenty with a slant base (I think I got to the 22MOA range on a flat base before I topped out.)

Quality was very good for the price, my biggest concern would be yote hunting without a lit ret. But then, I have fuck-all experience yote-hunting so maybe it isn't as necessary as I imagine.

I only sold mine because I saw a WTB and I really wasn't using it for anything.

Re: Vortex viper. Any good?

I just posted the same thread about a month ago. I bought the Viper 4x14 with the bdc ret. and its a beautiful scope. I just bore sighted the other night and will sight it in later this week. The clarity of this scope is incredible for the price you pay! You need to look up Scott Berish from Liberty Optics and he'll hook you right up!

Wow. Tough Crowd.

Please remember that the Search function on this Board is more like a dysfunction. One quirk is that if you 'page-back' into the search page, it does NOT really take your new search terms, but repeats with the old ones. That has given me a LOT of false "nothing found" results. You need to re-click on the "Search" link and start from scratch.

'course, I still laughed when I read the response.

I did not use the search. I simply went page by page. Took all of about 20 minutes. Yes, I was bored
