Maybe I'm beating a dead horse, but I thought some of you might be interested to know how the new scope worked. I took it out on a Remington 700sps in a Mcree stock, medium xtr rings on a 20moa rail and tried it out from 100-1000yds. I could have gone with low xtr rings, but no one I spoke with would commit to that hight without the scope in hand. Oh yeah, FYI- I was on 3 waiting lists for about 5 months before I was able to get one. I completed my build just prior to a BHTC course so I didn't have time to play around much prior to leaving.

Fit/Finish- The best I've ever come into contact with. The adjustment clicks are sharp, the resets are consistant. Everyone else whom got behind it said they wanted one, alot had one on order.

Zoom and clarity- I've never gone from 6-24 so it was new to me, I kept things dialed to about 18x at distance. I could see the holes easily to 300 and knew where I was out at 750. I had a chance to shoot by laser designator at night and it was just like a video game with the illuminated recticle over the green halo. Having 10 brightness levels helped a lot as you want to have it just visible over the green, not distractingly bright. I picked up the ARD and found that I was getting a double image at distance. Once I pulled it out, crystal clear.

The FFP recticle made it really nice for a newbie to size up targets at various distances. Highly recommended. MOA/MOA was very nice and easy to use.

Elevation- Well, I found out that I needed hotter loads to get to 1000yds and could't dial in enough elevation (with the 20moa base!) I counted out about 53MOA verticle(if I recal correctly). I could have held over more to make the hits, but the rounds went inconsistant and made that impossible.

A great scope at a good price. Hope this helps.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

53 MOA should be more than enough to get you to 1000 yards. What load you using?

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

Sorry, DA moment. Yes, viper.

Hi Rob. It was a 175gr. 2500fps. load shooting uphill. Freddy from BHTC was my eyes and he lost them at 850+. Wierd. We think they were destabolzing. They worked great to 750s.

Maybe sometime we can get out together and I'll let you see them.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

I'm guessing you have a 1 in 12 twist barrel which probably wont be fast enough for that range. If I push 175s to 2700 I can get 900 yards but they won't make it to 1000.

Try 168s or 155's. By pushing 168s to at least 2650 you should be able to get to 1000 but the bullet will start to yaw and loose accuracy. With varget you should get up to 2800 but you will still get there with decent accuracy and only slight yaw. 155s or a faster twist with 175s would probably be the best bet.

That's interesting because I shoot a 22" 12 twist and have never had issue to 1300 yds in 35*F.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

Varget and 175's will get you to 1000 no problem. 155' also will get you there but I prefer the 175's. The 168's are horendous for 1000 yd shooting (my experience). Some rounds will make it there but most will fall short and overall they were just plain unpredictable. My 175's are traveling at an average of 2670 in a 1-12 twist Rem. BBL

I shoot 175's at 1000 often started at 2650, and have shot to 1180 and they were hitting just fine. I'm at about 800' ASL, but the bullets make the transition well, and a 12 twist is sufficient for that bullet. 168 SMK's or identical designs won't make it to 1K stable, and I know that from personal experience. 155's are good bullets, but you lose out in the wind unless you can push them 2900'ish.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

You need to push those a little faster but even at 2500fps you should still be very close to supersonic at 1000.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

When are we gonna get some good video of the PST? I need some porn until mine arrives.

Re: Vortex Vector FFP Moa Review

Is this the regular viper, not the PST, correct?

Also, what's the BC of the bullet you're using/ which bullet are you using? Unless I missed this in the OP. Then just hit me upside the head.
