Rifle Scopes Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50-FFP

What time is dusk? I don't see any difference due to light levels especially since the reticle has 10 levels of illumination. Down at 6 power the recticle is still readable on the major subtentions 1,2,3 etc. I can read the 2, 4, 6, label. What would you envision the 6x would be used for? It has a very wide FOV. I can check it in a hour when it's dark.

I would like to use this scope for varmit hunting and may need low power and want to be sure I can still see the reticle on the varment. Dusk is not a clear description but I want to know if I can see the rectile 1/2 hour before dark. I wanted to look thru one so I called all the retail dealers (that were on the vortex web for my area) and they did not have this scope in stock for me to see. I like this scope but want to be sure before I get one. A lot of posts say the reticle gets lost at low power and I wanted some input from actual owners of this scope.

I'd say that the subtensions get hard to see at low power so it makes ranging more difficult but the cross hair is very easy to see. If the target is close then ranging error has less effect anyway. What reticle are you looking at Mil/Mil or Moa/Moa. The manuals are online

This would be my take on this, the 50mm bell/lens should allow enogh light for dark30.Even on a good full to 3/4 full moon night you should be able to just point and aim, when your eyes have adjusted to the light.Plus having the illumanated ret your good to.

I just ordered this scope but in a sfp for the same reason as you are asking.I went with the sfp because it will allow the moa marks and center point of the ret to be seen better.( on lower power settings ) the lower the setting the bolder the ret is.This hurts some in target shooting and useing the ret to range at lower settings, but not an issue for me.Shooting at 1000 will need 24x to see the target,so this alone will allow the ret to be at its true size.

just to add to this take a look at the thread about FFP scopes, this thread alone will help out alot when asking about FFP scopes.I know it helped me to pick the scope I am getting.
