Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

What's the most popular chassis that is used with these actions? With so many options for the 700 footprint, is there one that most gravitate towards?

Manners mini-chassis work well for me. Not so with some others like mcree and Magpul...
The Vudoo DBM is simply the best fit I've found, glad I went for a full build. But my gen2 manners mini-chassis was the next best fit. Ymmv...

As far as chassis systems go, the MPA has been the most popular among APPARITION orders. Out of conventional stock builds, the Grayboe has led the pack.

Have you written somewhere about Vudoo's preferred cleaning procedures for your rifles? I just ordered a build last weekend and would like to get the proper cleaning tools ready for when it comes in a couple months. This is really my first precision rimfire rifle and I just don't want to screw anything up.

Nate, I've written it somewhere, I think further back in this thread or on FB. I use Boretech Eliminator for the bore with a Nylon Brush and Patches (never a metallic brush and NEVER use CLR from the hardware store in your barrel). Always use a bore guide (we have them available from Vudoo or any 40X guide will work). Generally, I use Lucas Oil CLP and Gun Grease but any high quality cleaners/lubes will work. I wipe externals really well with the CLP and Gun Grease on the Bolt assembly.

Hotel Sierra:

Do you follow the dictum of only cleaning a barrel when "groups open-up" although that requires a definition of an opened-up group.

Rick,
I religiously clean my 3 Gun gear but rarely clean my rimfires. When groups open, the first thing I clean is the chamber and just forward of the chamber; if they're still not as tight as I would expect, I then clean the bore. Some percentage of the time, cleaning the chamber and just forward is all it needs.

Called Mile High Shooting on Monday afternoon talked to Dan, they had several barreled action in stock. Renegade stock, 18” barrel, Trigger Tech Diamond flat faced shoe. Dan put it together and shipped on Monday, I picked it up Wednesday evening. Great service and Dan really went out of his way to get my rifle out before Thanksgiving.
Just had time to sight in @ 25y, before the wind picked up, ten shots one ragged hole. Can’t wait t test out ammo tomorrow weather permitting.

These questions are a bit out of left field but I figure I'll ask anyway.

When you guys came up with the Sinister build, what barrel profile did you have in mind? Kukri or Specter?
What is the approximate weight difference between an 18" Kukri barrel vs an 18" Specter contour?
Do you think getting a Sinister with a Kukri barrel contour would make it heavy enough that it wouldn't be well suited for occasional small game hunting?
Is the 8lb Sinister weight estimation on the website for a Specter or Kukri contour barrel?

I ask because I ordered a Sinister build a week ago with a Specter barrel contour but I'm not sure if I want to bump that up to a Kukri contour. Getting it in a Kukri contour would allow me a bit more flexibility (to possibly drop it in a chassis to emulate my match rifle and then use the stock to hunt) but I don't know if I want to sacrifice its all-around usefulness if it's going to add a lot of weight.

Nate,
The Specter contour was specifically selected for the Sinister build, but no reason you can't/shouldn't use the Kukri contour. Personally, the Kukri wouldn't be too heavy, but the Specter makes it a bit more "handy" as a field rifle. Bringing the Kukri back to 16" helps a bit if you want the heavier contour on a field type rifle. I believe we may have a guy using is Sinister for matches.

Do you have the ability to change orders or is this going to take one more embarrassing phone call for me to change things around one more time? Not my proudest moment but I think I'm going to completely switch to a Ravage.

Jeez-O-Peet, Nate!!!! You're the first guy to EVER change his order and you should be completely ashamed of yourself!!!! Just kidding, Bro, shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I'll square it away right now. No worries....

Rick,
I've thought a lot about a switch-barrel and it's not outside the realm of possibility.

ARC Barloc on a Vudoo would be awesome, top it off with a hot rod 17 option I'm really interested in that...... There are a few places that I can small varmint hunt that the reduced richocet of the 17 is important, the little 17 bullets pretty much evaporate when they hit something hard.

Thanks a lot. Deliciously ambiguous as my high school English teacher was wont to say.

I would bet donuts to dollars Vudoo could make a switch barrel rifle with inherent precision of 1.0 MOA but perhaps neither economically nor technologically feasible to make one with 0.1 MOA.

Anyway, best case or worse case scenario depending on your viewpoint, down the road if no switch barrel will buy a V-22 in least weight config possible.

Someone asked about cleaning materials for the Vudoo. I ordered a few bore guides a few weeks back for mine and my father & brother. I own a LOT of different bore guides and have to say I’m very impressed with the offerings from Vudoo! Again just another super high quality product from VGW...

What cleaning rod are you using with that bore guide?

I put the felt on a 17 cal jag that came with the rod. I just turned the 1st ring (closest to the tip of the jag) down so the felt will slip over. It works about as good as with the VFG felt specific jag does. It works pretty well, at least the two times I cleaned the rifle...

Just grabbed a brick each of center x and SK rifle match, they seemed pretty popular throughout the thread anything else I should look for?

I have seen good results out of Eley Match and Tenex also (I am getting a few failure to fire occasionally from Eley, a simple re-cock and they will fire). R50 did not show me much, neither did Lapua Polar Biathlon. SK Rifle Match was nothing spectacular. Center X is hard to beat!

I'm pretty sure my 18" barrel is their Ace model. My gun shoots CCI SV surprisingly well, very close if not better than SK Std+. SK Pistol Match Special and Rifle Match not so good, SK Pistol Match Good at 50/100/200, Tenex wasn't much better than SK Pistol, Eley Contact not quite as good as CCI SV, Federal Ultramatch at 50/100 is good, RWS R50 at 50/100/200 is probably one of the best, Center-X is also good at 50/100/200. Wolf Match Extra shows potential at 50, yet to test at 100/200. I imagine all I've listed will shoot close to one hole at 25 yds in a Vudoo, but I've never shot groups at 25 yds with mine, just rough in bore sighting rounds.

All said rimfire will always have variables box to box, lot to lot, barrel to barrel. It's also very sensitive to shooter influence/input and wind/atmosphere conditions. Every day usually offers a different set of variables when shooting outdoors. Also you as the shooter will have good days and bad days.

You'll go crazy trying for perfection, but as long as you understand it's really not obtainable and set reasonable expectations it's one of the most enjoyable forms of shooting there is IMO.

I know its not exactly what you asked but I was curious and my rifle is pretty close. Weight of 18" kukri in KRG Bravo with: Athlon Midas Tac 6-24, Seekins rings, KRG spigot, and Harris 6-9" = 11.4 lbs. Maybe that is helpful.

Thank you sir!
Looks like I better change my bbl. profile to a Specter.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming ;)

MB,
I see you have done a lot to address the bolt nose/suppressor debris issue by adding a semi-coned breech to help.

Have you thought about addressing the source of the problem at the suppressor end?

Looking at a couple of my .22 suppressors (ie. Silencerco Sparrow and Spectre is really bad), when pointed up, they are nothing but a big funnel at the blast chamber dropping everything down to the end of the bbl.

Then, the short, threaded stub of the bbl. is slightly below the "mouth" of the funnel.

Then, the muzzle crown is another perfect funnel....

The debris has NOWHERE to go except right down the bore.

Would it be possible to extend (like the true Silencerco o-ring spec, only slightly longer) a short, unthreaded stub slightly protruding INTO the blast chamber?

This would elevate (when pointed up) the barrel crown above the mouth of the funnel, letting debris collect around the sides instead of sliding down the bore.

Then you could also make the muzzle crown "funnel" (see pic above) a smaller diameter and do a slight reverse crown on the outer circumference of the muzzle to give the debris even a smaller area to hit as it drops.

I think this would keep 75% of the debris in the suppressor blast chamber instead of dropping down the bore.

I have a gun in your pipeline if you would want to experiment with it.

I think this would work well with the Silencerco suppressors, but obviously other brands may be different. But I would expect all .22 suppressors to have at least a through hole of 1/2-28 minor thread diameter into the blast chamber.

Just some random thoughts last night as I was going to bed, I may be a total idiot and overlooked something big, but I'm old and my skin is thick, so if you want to call me an idiot, it won't hurt my feelings!!

The V-22 18" Ranch bbl'd action I've been watching for arrived today, and as I'd glued aluminum pillars into the Manners EH2 stock several days ago, all I had to do was install the TT Diamond trigger I'd bought for it, then slip in the PTG Stealth DBM & torque the action screws down. I mounted a new Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 in TPS TSR low rings, bore sighted it after leveling the reticle, and it's ready to take to the range tomorrow to zero the scope & find out whether it likes any of the SK & Lapua ammo I have on hand. I weighed it before attaching the Harris bipod & TBAC 22TD can in the photo - my old dieter scale showed 8.75lbs.

Yessir, I have an issued patent but haven’t jumped into the suppressor arena. I already absorbed the url’s, just need the time to kick it off, if I decide it’s a good way to go. I’ve spoken a little bit about the “weather pattern” inside suppressors that contribute to a higher particulate collection (in Rimfire suppressors) and the most reliable way to handle it has been the Hybrid Cone Breech; short of dealing with it at the suppressor. So much to do, so little time....

jtran - I'm from western Kansas, but travel down to Hutch to shoot HP & various precision rifle matches with the guys from Central Ks. Gun Club. One of them runs a 22RF PR match monthly through spring-early fall, with targets from 25yds out to 300+yds. His matches are always a good time - if you're within easy driving distance, you might want to look into it. I've also just ordered a V-22 bbl'd action for one of our friends up in the KC area who shoots primarily HP out at Mill Creek, but who is looking to get into the 22RF PR matches up there, so there's another potential venue for you...

I'm using an MDT LSS-XL chassis with a Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock. . The only thing I miss is a folding stock when it comes time to clean the barrel.

Any of the fellow Vudoo owners that shot competitively want the perfect chamber flag?? The bolt on mine runs so smooth that it knocks standard flags out as I move from line to stand. I am also not a big fan of jamming plastic in the bore. I still have not received various custom flags, but check out what we got.

This reinvented version snaps in and snaps out just forward of bolt and stays in place until time to put 10 shots in the same hole.....

I have a Vortex PST Gen 2 5-25x50 and I need to order some rings, What's going to be the right height? .87 .92 .97

I have a bunch of center x, SK rifle, RWS 50 and an absolute shit ton of CCI SV so I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the one I need.

Anyone heard what Vudoo gun works will have at shot show in January?

Nope but I have some cash set aside if something at SHOT catches my interest. My Ravage build should be done right around when SHOT starts.

Funny isn't it, I find that the first 5-6 rounds over a different lube will HAMMER 90% of the time. Then it opens up for about 10 rounds or so before it starts shooting again. It is always a bit of a tease. But these Vudoo built rifles are seeming to be so consistently accurate rifle to rifle. I have another coming soon and cant wait until it gets here!
