Greetings ladies & gents;
I'm not new to reloading, but mostly straight wall cases, e.g. 45 Colt, 45ACP, 45-70, 44 Rem Mag, 9mm (for family), and WWII Ball for my refurbished Winchester M1917. I've learnt some about casting & alloys, which is mainly what I use for the above.

#1 & #3 sons are 'taunting' me to get into the AR platform, as they are setting up for some "friendly" intramural 6.5 CM competition. I agreed instead, to mentor where I could, but load .308 Win. for us/them/grndsons. I use Dillon presses. I don't see why my 550B couldn't be used here for .308, but I'll reserve judgement based upon your input.

I've read & heard precautions re: home brew cartridges for these semi-auto thunder sticks. I'm here to learn to produce safe reliable ammo. .308 for hunting is not off the table, but not in the picture at this time.

My concerns at this time: die sets to avoid; to use; resizing issues & crimping goals.

Thanks much, in advance

Let me make sure I understand you correctly.

Your sons are proposing a competition but you are loading all your ammo - and theirs.

It sure sounds like there is the opportunity for a lesson in this for them and it is your duty as a father to teach them.

I predict good times to be had by all, and the sons to get a little bit wiser.

Welcome to the Hide, where many of us are about a half bubble off plumb.

Almost. They're new to reloading. I offered to mentor them whilst reloading some .308 for "us",etc. I've had a few sessions with #1 reloading 45 Colt & 9mm (for me!) and he's relating to my opinion that unless your in love with the process (details), your 6.5CM endeavor will include a lot of factory ammo. It's all a good time for sure. Thanks for your welcome.
