After watching several online videos of reviews of different scopes I would like to get the true end user opinion. We are in the process of getting a 308/762 long range bolt gun/ our first precision rifle,(Cadex maybe) looking in the $3-4K range and with the current Black Friday ads I’m looking at the Schmidt Bend PMll, Nightforce ATACR, Steiner M5 or M7 and the Vortex Razor HD, thinking we want the Tremor3 reticle, FFP and the biggest glass or I think the biggest glass, looking for your inpit, local range the biggest bay is 500yds, mostly guessing us at first learning and local range competition, but if this gets addicting I want to use the motto “Buy once Cry once” so I don’t wish I had done something different. If there is another brand? Reticle? Size? I want to hear it, I am new to the forum so this might be like beating a dead horse if so I apologize, PM me if you rather, I just don’t want this to turn into a heated Chevy/Ford/Dodge debate, Thanks in advanc, I have enjoyed the forum so far

1) if the S&B is the 3-27 beautiful glass, very large fov at 3x.

2) Razor: rugged as a off road truck if it were to break they fix them. Leaves more money for ammo

3) NF: maybe if your wife got you one for Xmas you would have to pretend you found something to like about it.

Not on your list, but I'd recommend the ZCO 4.5-27x56 with either the MPCT2 or 3 reticle.
Nothing wrong with the .308, but there are better options, especially when you start shooting longer distances.

All the scopes listed are viable and useable with no issue. When you get to the top tier it really comes down to important features first in my mind is the reticle, then turrets (firmness, locking, etc), and glass as well but not the deciding factor as all will get the job done. Depending on what type of shooting you plan to do as well, if you plan to do your own spotting the Horus and Tremor reticles can be overwhelming. The new Schmidts are amazing with the DT2+ turrets, the Steiner M7 series is great, Nightforce is known to be very robust, and the Razor series is very popular for good reason. Your shooting style and features should help you make the right decision for you.

I can only speak to my experience but I have a NF ATACR 7-35 with Mil-XT reticle and LOVE IT. It is sitting on my Impact 737R 300WM in an MPA ESR chassis. I’m also a newer long range shooter and my first shots at 1,000yd were hits. Glass made it easy to see clearly.

That said, I would like to try a ZCO and S&B someday.

NF 7-35 or a Schmidt. I have both and am at a loss to pick a favorite. I’ve shot with the others listed but never owned them. I agree with eagle archer that the 7-35 with the Mil XT is outstanding. The tremor might be a bit busy if you’re new to the game. Lotsa crap in your view. Unless you’re specifically planning to shoot only with holdovers I’d consider opting for a simpler reticle.

NF got it right with the Mil XT to my way of thinking. My only gripe with Schmidt is that their reticles never seem to check all the boxes for me. It’s been a couple years since I looked at their offerings, so that may have changed.

just to be clear about why I think you might not want the Tremor, there is so much going on it really obscures your view. Doesn’t seem like a big deal until you are trying to spot an impact. The 308 you were planning to put this on will have significant recoil and it is likely to be difficult to spot your impacts, especially if you are new to this game.
