While I appreciate his stand, it wasnt really fair to the players, theyre just kids. Its easy to second guess but I think a better solution would have been to pause the game, called the police, and had the disruptive parents 'removed' (with extreme prejudice, if necessary).

You ever been to a youth game where the parents are out of control? I have and he did the right thing imo. The only thing that gets through to these idiot parents is if their kid loses due to their atrocious behavior. If the whole team loses, then maybe, just maybe, the other parents on the team have sense enough to have a discussion with them about their conduct.

Heck, 30+ years ago, when my kids were playing soccer as 6-8 Year olds during the summer, the parks commission was smart enough to make them sign a waiver saying that any abusing behavior on their parts, towards a child or an official, would immediately result in them (the parents) being banned from the games. Yet I still saw some who tried to push it and ended up ejected from the field.

People be crazy.

I've seen parents act like this since I was in Little League. <LONG freaking time ago>

I have also spent time behind the plate. I support the umpire wholeheartedly!

It's sad for the kids, but after all it is "JUST" a game. We wonder why there are so many problems with some of our youth today.

One place that held a couple Little League All-Star tournaments annually when my son was playing, put up tarps on the backstops behind home plate because of parents heckling the umpires on balls and strikes calls. So much for choice seats behind the plate.

Hopefully other parents brought these idiots back in line.

As a past park president we always gave a stern warning. I remember telling the coach he had 2 minutes to get the parent out of the stands and to the parking lot. When he wanted to argue I just told him he had 1 minute 30 seconds or they forfeited the game. Parents left.

I did that when I was a kid, except I threw the parents out of “my” ballpark under threat of throwing the game for the non-parent team.

The woman screamed all way to the parking lot.

I found out later that the Mr. was a city Commissioner. I never umpired in that town again.

It was worth it.
I played little league in the mid 60's. That kind of behavior would have gotten stomped quickly. But that was before the dynasty of Ken and Karen.

Is there some sort of afterlife trophy waiting for parents of children in sports? WTF is so important that they have to put people through their shit?

I played baseball for 15 years, my younger brother played all the way through D1 college ball.

I umped for a few of his games when I was 15-16 as a volunteer. Some of the shit I heard was fucking insane. I threw out a few parents from my brothers team and the opposing team. One guy yelled he’d be waiting in the parking lot for me and he was going to break my knee caps. I was 16, he was 40.

My little brother used to play soccer when he was a kid and I used to always watch him play/practice whenever I had the chance. There wasn't too many retard parents who would scream at the ref or opposing team's kids, but they did exist. 🙄

As a hockey ref and hockey parent, I see it from both sides. Nothing pisses me off more that an official that is clearly just out there to collect a paycheck. I understand that it is a difficult job most of the time but at least show some sort of effort to be in the right position to make a call. If an official is showing that he is at least trying, I can understand missing a call because he is seeing it from a different angle than I am. All these kids want is a fair chance at success. They are working their ass off to achieve that success, the least a ref can do is put in a reasonable amount of effort to maintain a safe and fair environment.

Note: Rant starts here...
And for fuck sake, read and know how to apply the rules for the age level and league you are officiating.

As for the parents, maybe they should also read and know how to apply the fucking rules too. If you haven't read the rule book, shut the fuck up.

End of rant... for now...

My buddy was the Rec Department guy in a modestly sized town in Texas. He carried extra rule books, and when a parent was out of line or had overly-vocal complaints, he would calmly take them aside (he attended games every evening, at the big field area), tell them that he had teams with no coaches, perhaps the parent would like to take that team and their kid and start coaching? He'd hand them the book of rules while he was doing it. Same thing for people yelling at Umps, he'd take them to the side (everyone knew him), and tell them he had a chest protector and a counter, in just their size. He'd even offer them the little blue cap (he had them in his day pack). "No? Well, then, you can calm down or leave the sports complex, because that Ump can always forfeit your team due to your lack of sportsmanship." The town was small enough 20K that a cop was there every night, (some were coaches and a couple were umps), and were very willing to escort a loudmouth Karen to their vehicle. Or do a sobriety test (lots o' drinking in Texas).

More parents should fkn volunteer to ref instead of being dick heads in the stands or the bench.
I always told my kids when I coached "if we leave it up to the refs then we deserve to lose. Play hard and let's have some fun."
This is how I actually became a hockey ref. I was complaining about the refs in my games so much I decided I could do it better, or at least see it from their side. Now I don't really say too much to the refs when I play unless he is a lazy fuck who doesn't know the rules and is just there for a paycheck.

I was a little league umpire during high school and had to call the cops on bad parents. It was pretty obvious they were sports nuts or just competitive assholes living through their kids. Like one dad who played college baseball and so now he was out there screaming at Jr.

Let’s not forget that a lot of these parents think they are “investing” in li’l Timmy’s or Deshaundre’s future by paying for them to play on ‘select teams.’ They’re paying for the right call, not the correct call…

And, in any sport where the Ump/Ref is also a judge- shooting/MMA/whatever- the first rule of competition that every competitor should memorize and really take to heart is "don't leave it up to the judge."

My son shoots NSCA sporting clays, and is also an NSCA certified trapper. He sees the jobs form both sides. He'll ask for a chip, but drop it if the trapper/puller disagrees. He also keeps his mouth shut as an observer, unless directly asked his opinion. And, the little shit has truly unnatural vision.
