Re: We Were Soldiers

My uncle flew HU-1s in nam and he had just returned from action to Ft. Rucker when Hal got there to start up the program depicted in the movie. Because he had just returned he was not added to that rotation. But Its crazy to think my uncle was almost a character in that story. Just for other fun facts there is a good book called chickenhawk based about a hu-1 pilot of nam. Whats crazy about that one is my uncle read this book and at first he thought it was about him until he realized he knew the author. Apparently it is closely related to my uncles story up until the autor returns home to start running drugs. lol Oh and for us snipers my uncle spook of what they use to do for fun, which they called snipe hunting. They would have one guy go in real low to the tree line with a slick to keep up there speed. This was done to draw out fire from ground troop so the two gunships following chase could light his world up. Sounds like fun to me.

Corresponded with him, and he signed my copy of We Were Soldiers...

Re: We Were Soldiers

I have a friend that was a door gunner in nam and, he said that this movie comes closer than any other movie to getting it right.

He's currently in a wheel chair from the agent orange doses he got in the war. He's a great man. I used to see him at the cigar shop almost every time I'd go by there. Sadly, they changed ownership and, I don't see him much anymore.
