Hello all. I am relatively new to shooting as a sport. Several years back, I have gone hunting with my father and I am no stranger to shooting a gun. I am looking into getting a rifle for myself for both target shooting as well as hunting within the next few years. I recently came across a Weatherby Vanguard 7mm Mag for $350 and was considering picking it up. I couldn't find any ballistics on it, which was quite saddening. I know that the loads for this model aren't too expensive, which is a big bonus. I was wondering whether or not anyone here has had any experience with this particular model or knows someone who has. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Devin

Re: Weatherby Vanguard 7mm Mag

I have that exact rifle, and while it shoot well, I need to handload to keep it inside 5 inches at 100 yards. Maybe its just mine but from what I've found, its very picky about the ammo and load. The 7mm mag is agreat round but will burn the barrel pretty fast compaired to other good caliber choises. Unless your really looking to push the limits with this caliber (past 1000yds) I would look somewhere else. For instance 30-06 or if you must have a Mag the 300wm maninly because of ammo selection.

Another issue is there is close to now aftermarket for the long action weatherby's. To counter that argument the Actions are great but if I had it to do over, I'd probably go somewhere else.
