My favorite gun range is out in the country, steel targets and obstacles if you want to use them, had its first serious injury. The guy was using a sbr and extended his finger out and was on the side of the flash hider when he pulled the trigger, just filleted the finger half way down took everything but bone.

I can see how that can happen. Sbr’s or pistols can be real short and many people have muscle memory for longer guns, grab wrong and blam. Hope nothing bad happens to your range, it sounds fun!

Ouch. I have an (legal) SBR but added a long can, particularly for user safety in situations like this.
Best wishes to the finger.

I hope it’s fine, small town everyone isn’t lawsuit happy. I knew the flash hider produced a good deal of pressure out the vents but that was more than I expected.

Command Sgt. Major Darwin says... "Don't put booger hook in front of flash hider... Dumbass!"

I was at a run and gun several months ago. Waiting to jump off, we hear over the radio ‘medic to stage 1…’ Oh fuck. Get up there and find out what happened. Guy had an SBR shooting through a VTAC barricade. Recoil slowly pushing him out of the slot. Then, he puts a bullet through the weather worn plywood. Splinters and detritus exploded into his face. Thankfully, it wasn’t a gunshot wound, but he wasn’t having a good day regardless.

Keep track of your digits and fatty, flappy parts. Wear eye pro. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Don’t be the guy that shoots himself on the draw, or re-holster.

We had a guy ND at our monthly club 3 gun match. He had a Serpa holster, we warned him about it, put a round in the dirt about 3" from his foot. He learned pretty quick, came back the next month with a Comp-Tac. The RO just about shit himself.

Was at the indoor range years ago and the only other guy in there is sparking rounds off everything in there . Went to the counter and told them . They tell me it's throw back from a .25 . Yeah ok . So a few minutes later the guy smokes his support hand index finger . Tried grabbing the front of the trigger guard and covered the end of the barrel . Problem solved .

There was accident with minor injury a few years ago but I still laugh about it. The guy went kaboom in a bad way with a Glock due to his reloading skills. It blew the gun apart literally, to the point the slide release was imbedded in his cheek. The part that still makes me laugh is he asked the range RO who is also a gunsmith after he removed the release from his face if he could fix the glock. It looked like the only thing left really usable was the rear sight.

Saw many a pickup up hood suffer paint damage by magnum rifles once muzzle breaks became a thing. Especially right before deer season.

Years ago one of my buddies (also a hide member) bought a 223 contender pistol with a vais style muzzle break. He was using a small tree to brace on while he shot it. I watched that thing daisy cut two green branches the diameter of a fat pencil with the first shot. It left an impression on me.

Saw this happen twice now with muzzle brakes on 14.5" barrels with long armed shooters. In both cases they learned their lesson but there were no injuries. Just fingers that tingled for a couple days.

Was shooting an IPSC match long time ago and a shooter was shooting on a stage when he shot a squib. There was a good RO right on top of it that yelled Whoa! as soon as it popped and stopped the run.

The guy went to an empty side range and shot the rest of the mag until 'Kaboom.' He found his double charge from his reloads. It blew the grip panels off his 1911 and I'm sure his hand smarted but he was otherwise unhurt.

I bet he won't do that again.

What is that?
Chris Costa, probably not his proudest moment.

But apparently, my generation can live through MAC 10's, Krinkov's, Skorpions, MP-5K, Uzi and Uzi Pistol AND the XM177-E2... and still have most of our fingers.

Wow. Kids.

Yeah those kids y’all let shoot machine pistols without help don’t count?
Friendly reminder little people can’t control small machine guns they walk all the way around and shoot the shooter.

I often wonder how often this happens. Even on my 11.5 pistol, I used to get a little nervous with it until I got a button for my light and my hand naturally goes right there.
