So I get being scared and I get being out gunned - what I don’t get is collecting the fat check/pension for work you can’t or won’t do.
glad to know my home state has affirmative action hiring policies to get under contract warriors such as these! Surely they won’t get caught flat footed when the second rounds of riots break out nation wide over what ever cartoon or statue or dead drug addict criminal sets off the mob. Didn’t even make a report or give chase - splendidly done!

Welcome to America where the government pays you to not work.
Down the rabbit hole we go.

I am not defending the officers but people collect a fat check/pension for work they can’t or won’t do every week regardless of the type of career. I think it‘s safe to say everyone knows people like that. If you don’t, you are probably that guy...

not like them they don't? 1 of 3 professions that collects before retirement age and that needs to stop. One other is politicians, take that for what it's worth.

the NYC teacher's union has (at last count) over 7000 teachers on the payroll doing nothing because they cannot be fired (tenure) and they cannot be allowed near children.

That's the perfect storm. NYC will never go against the Teacher's Union. Why, I don't know.

Or maybe it’s a key reason a dying city that’s almost half its population can still lead the nation in violent crime.
we’ve researching this- not our AO we are out in the sticks but DODs former chief is running for governor on a law and order platform, and he will be destroyed though he is a black guy with an R by his name it can’t save him from corruption and incompetence.
One gem- after a two year investigation in which 13 of the 20 DPD drug strike team was caught stealing planting and destroying evidence, taking protection money from drug dealers and prostitution rings, stealing money from dealers and from evidence- on down the list- they were allowed to quit or resign, that sure sounds like law and order!

Warren v. District of Columbia

If you are not familiar with it, become familiar with it.
TLDR: Police have no duty to protect you.

The other great one; anyone remember Detroit PDs 11,000 rape kits abandoned in a storage unit- it’s wasn’t the the fault of the chief now running for office he was brought in to clean it up- and with witnesses statements DNA samples , video ect in a city with over 800 serial rapists , some already serving time in prison with the state police and fbi help he got a conviction rate of just over 1%. In over 11000 cases he got 194 convictions, so bad that in 2019 the department just closed the files. Fucking outstanding!

Well aware of the SCOTUS ruling - it gives no absolution to witnessing murder and doing nothing. It was to late for protection how about policing????
hows that boot polish taste?

Actually there is a case where gent violated a restraining order and was thus subject to arrest, but was it was ruled (Scalia author no less), that police can be 'subjective' even when required to make an arrest by a court order.

It was in Colorado and if memory serves 2005.

Now before you paint with that broad brush like our old friend wade--remember, you get what you pay for, and right now, you couldn't pay me enough to be a police officer. Everyone and their sister (metaphorically) gunning for them. Sure they breakup the shooting, the get charged with excessive violence or violating civil rights...

I'm not saying they are right, I'm just sayin I understand...

Second helping , must be good stuff.
So some judge somewhere said “subjective” and that translates to - witness murder on the job and do t even make a fucking radio call”? Yep I see your point - holy shit are we fucked .

A friend from Philadelphia says it about the same.

I think that kind of worker keeping their job long is almost exclusive to government work.

If I was a cop, and needed to shoot someone, and couldn't tell if they were white, I would run too.

It's a sad place we're at right now for sure, but I really don't blame them. Especially if the cop-cops in the car were white. They get out and attempt to quell the situation, cop has to kill little Antoine, cue the CNN trucks, BLM has a riot for free stuff (mostly peaceful protest) and the lawyer's on speed dial. Because you know Antione didduenuffin, he was going to the gas station for some skittles and was due to start college in a month. Oh, I'm suing the city for 10 million and want those cops in prison.
I do not envy the position LE is in right now.

I haven't read this whole thread, so I don't know the outcome, or everybody's thoughts, on this, but I'd be willing to bet that the officers were white, and the shooters were black. If the officers would have responded, shooting and/or killing the shooters, they would have been prosecuted to the full extent of the made-up laws of Detroit, and spent the rest of their lives in jail. So, it's either lifetime in jail, of go home at night to their spouse and kids. I know which one I'd choose. Let the gang-bangers kill each other and I'm going home to my family. It's frikkin Detroit.

Edit: Besides, look at al the looting and burning they prevented by NOT killing the black suspects.

On another note, in the video, it looks like the officer was trying to run the shooter off the road. The shooter probably turned the gun towards the officers, so the officers sped up to avoid being killed.

Again, I haven't read this whole thread, so this is all speculation and first impressions.

One of my coworkers was a damn good cop. Shit like this is why he’s a heavy equipment mechanic now.

No way for them to win, is it? If they run, they are cowards getting a free check. If they try and stop it, they are locked up and tried for murder because the gunman was clearly an outstanding citizen that just loved everyone and everyone loved him.

Not too many of us get put in positions where we can't win, no matter what we do, every day.

The crime here is what we've done to the Police to put them in this state of affairs.

I think there is more to this before it happened. Who does a drive-by in front of a Patrol Car?

Clearly the perps were not concerned with the Patrol Car's occupants chasing, shooting or taking any action that would result in arrest.

Why they felt that way is what has my interest; (1) Either the cops were in on it or aware of it, or (2) They knew the cops in the car would run and be scared.

Interesting enough is that the Patrol Car pulls out and outruns the perps! Thus, there is no shot of the license plate.... hmmmmmmmm.
