The Welrod is one of the many guns I first learned about through video games. I think it is one of the coolest weapons ever made, despite its quite limited applications. I've never handled or seen one up close, but I have seen it taken apart in pictures. The mechanism is extremely crude. The only real moving part is the firing pin. I think in a previous post, someone was talking about sub 100 dB with this gun, and I am assuming it was with 32 ACP. Wikipedia shows 73 dB. The drop of a firing pin or hammer is usually pretty loud, well over 100 dB if I had to guess. I say this because on dry firing many guns, the muscles in my ears tighten up, which is a sign of protection from pain.

In any case, I would like to see someone build a new Welrod, maybe with an updated core, and instead of a typical firing pin, use an electronic firing system like the one remington tried over 10 years ago. I'm not saying full scale production, just a prototype to see how quiet you can actually get a round to fire. Just thought that would be fun to see.

So they went back in time I see. Sneaky

However, I see that thing is over 120 dB. I think they can probably do better with a different caliber
