I love my .308 tikka varmint, and I am hunting a new property were quick 400-500 yard shots are common, and want a flatter shooting cartridge.

Tikka lists the 300 win mag as a caliber in their varmint line, but they are kinda hard to find. Anyone know were to look?

I do not want the lite version as I do not like skinny barrels on l range rifles.

I can tell you from years of shooting 300WM's and having custom rifles built, that you want a reputable smith to chamber that barrel. Someone who knows what you will be using the rifle for and picks an appropriate reamer to do the job. The way your rifle shoots, how quickly it breaks in, how much it fouls, it's final accuracy and how easy it is to develop a load for, are completely dependent on the reamer design, how sharp the reamer is, who feeds the reamer into your barrel and how.

Reasonable price may be less important when you start to take all of that into account.

Mark Gordon at Short Action Customs built us a nice T3 in .260, and he's done a number of T3's. There are others of course but we have no experience with them but he's the only one to do a T3 for us. Good luck,
Justin

I totally agree with you on that. I do not assume reasonable means cheap or inexpensive. I expect the amount of knowledge and skill it takes to put a accurate barrel on a rifle is substantial. I expect for there to be cost associated, and reasonable to me means a fair price for what I'm getting.

Is there anyone you can recommend?

Jason Chipley at Chipley Arms....of coarse I m a bit biased....he built my Tikka custom for me and oh yeah....I work for him as well. We have done quite a few Tikka's. Do a search on my name.

There is nothing different with working on the Tikka actions vs pretty much any other action. Having the right tools and fixtures is important though. If you need more info drop me a PM.
