I see some on the range and a few on auction sites for premium money. Is there still a advantage to these scopes today? I shoot from .22lr at 25yd to 30-06@300. I've been happy with the Leupolds I have but just thinking about them.

They have their advantages and disadvantages. I believe they are studier than an internal adjustment scope simply due to design. However, they are long and subject to bend if you are putting them through any kind of hard field use. The amount of adjustment per click is based on the distance between the mounting blocks and can be quite course although I believe the manufacturers allowed for that through standardization.
That being said there is nothing like a classic target/sniper rifle with a long tube scope. There is a great section on them in Phil Sharpe's "The Rifle in America" which came out when these scopes were the norm and people were doubting the new fangled scopes.

Here is my 1923 vintage Winchester 52 with a Lyman 6x Junior Targetspot

And 6 consecutive 5 shot groups at 100yds
