What Bottom Metal & Mag for 300 WSM on 700 LA

Curious to see what you get for feedback. I have a similar build I am planning. Wanting DBM but also minimize the amount of protrusion from the stock. I wish there were as many options for long actions as there are for short.

H&S has been suggested to me.

I’m not so worried about inlet. That is a quick task. I am concerned about feeding reliability due to the jump as it chambers. This is why I believe a centerfeed is the answer. What I’m not sure is what btm metal to go with, CDI, Badger, PTG? I only plan to run 5 rd mags so it won’t protrude significantly. I’m guessing the wsm after feed lip modification will only hold 3 Rds reliably due to case size. I’ll update the post as I get answers.

Last fall I built a 6.5 PRC in a long action Mausingfield, put it in an AG Composites stock and ran into the issue where the mags don’t quite sit high enough in the action which lead to some feeding issues. With 3 round accurate mags it feeds fine but with the 5 rounders I ran into the issue where the rounds dip and the tip hits the bottom edge of the feed lip. This is with the Stocky’s bottom metal, the APA RTG actually sat lower and wouldn’t work with either mag.

If this becomes an issue my advice is to check out LRI for their mag spacers. The spacer has a short feed lip that prevents the cartridge from getting stuck and pretty much fixed the issue entirely.

I wouldn't put a detachable magazine on a hunting rifle.

I would prefer a detachable mag for a hunting rifle. I like to be able to have the rifle with me and quickly slap a mag in if needed. Also prefer not to have loose rounds etc when unloading/ loading. It's not a big deal just a preference.
