No trap I found.. but here they are for easy access. I don't know what they are, though.

First thought was some kind of M14 or M1 mount.

But a couple of weeks ago, I saw some reproduction ww2-style German KAR-sniper mounts on a table at a gun show. I didn't give them more than a glance, but these reminded me of the mounts I saw on the table.

Someone here will probably have a definitive answer, but that was my first reaction.

Google for images "side mount scope base". Never knew there were so many but looked through a 100 or so but didnt see a match yet.
