Questions, comments, advice?

Im thinking about buying this, as my first AR, i thought i was leaning towards building one, or at least buying lower and upper prebuilt seperately, but i saw this and im trying to learn as much as i can about what to get what not to get and build up a good knowledge base.

I was a little concerned about that...

Is this carbon composite stuff new? I read up a little on it, and of course the press hype says that its sooo much better than alum, but i havent had enough time to really dig into it...

Any actual range reports with this stuff?

Or is it another flavor of the month mall ninja thing?

Re: What do you think of this price?...

It wouldn't be my choice.

Try looking around and seeing what the prices on GunBroker are and compare them to this setup. As far as figuring out what you want, I would spend a lot of time on this site and AR15 reading about the different aspects of the "black rifle". I would also recommend that you talk with others that have AR's and get their opinions.

Re: What do you think of this price?...

PASS!!

While there is nothing wrong with the carbon comp rifles per se, you would be better served by any number of different rifles for the same money. Also, FWIW, the price isn't really all that great. You can find much better quality ARs for cheaper. The Carbon 15 rifles could be had NIB for around the same money that this guy is asking for his used one. Also, the price on the TA31F isn't too bad, but you can do better. There have been a few for sale here lately for as low as $700 or so up to around $900.

Re: What do you think of this price?...

The lower you linked to is a CMMG forged lower. They are quality lowers. The lower with 4 mags isn't a bad deal depending on how much Brownells charges you to ship it to your FFL. The Brownells mags are usually pretty good too. You are essentially getting a $100 lower and $40 worth of "free" mags.

Re: What do you think of this price?...

I have owned 2 Bushmaster carbon fiber guns and both were crap. One did not feed properly but BM fixed it. Both shot much worse than the worst AK I have ever owned.

Re: What do you think of this price?...

Well, I'm glad you decided to pass that crap deal up. If 1800 is your budget for your first AR then you can find a lot better deals out there than that. Especially if you are considering a used one. What is your rifle going to be used for? I know alot of guys here will suggest spend your money on an optic that you are comfortable with that works best for what you intend to use it for, mags, and lots of ammo. There are alot of good AR manufacturers out there. Find out which ones meet your requirements(barrel twist, chrome-lined, Direct Impingement or Piston, free float rail, 1/2 MOA at 5 klicks, or whatever else) and out of those, choose one that has good reliability. Also, for me customer service is a big selling point. Look around, alot of good deals can be had on here and other sites.
