I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question in, if it isn't, my apologies. A friend of mine convinced me to get signed up for this with him. I'd like to try to do it the right way. http://competition-dynamics.com/team-safari-2018/

For those of you who have done this or something similar what kind of gear is 'necessary' and what is 'recommended', and what is just fluff?

I have pretty much all the gear necessary for PRS stuff. But I don't have a decent spotting scope, I do have some LRF Binos. Do we need to have 2 tripods for the event? One for rifle, one for spotting scope? What else?

Any insight is appreciated.

Basic PRS gear plus:

GOOD LRF. Good glass is key to finding targets (you find them on the clock). You're better off with two so both can be looking.
Two tripods. We carry our binos attached, then swap them off if the shooting position demands shooting from a tripod.
Really, that's it. I run a ruck for that event really just to make it easy to carry water. I can be very hot, and it's a long day out there with no support.

Everything he just said.
Finding your targets is tough on the SS course.
LRF binos are great to have. Particularly ones you can hard mount to your tripod with a quick detach clamp- I use an Arca plate on a BogPod bino saddle. this mounts into my RRS leveling base on my tripod.

My partner and I shot it last year after 4 individual Steel Safari comps each.
He shot a .308 gas gun and I shot a .260 bolt gun.
Ideally, we would've both been shooting 6.5 Creedmoor.
I'd add decent pants, boots, shirts and a good boonie cap and pack and you should be good to go.
This competition requires walking through a decent amount of rough terrain.

My buddy and I did Team Safari in 2016. I think we used the tripod twice. It ended up being more dead weight than anything. I would be more concerned with having a good pack that you can use to build solid positions in multiple ways with, because you will have to shoot in some awkward spots where a tripod won't work. The tripod can also eat up too much time trying to get it set up right.

The LRF binos are worth their weight in gold.

Bring a good field cleaning kit that doesn't take up a bunch of space. If you dump your weapon in the dirt and can't clean it out, you're fucked. The dirt out there is like moon dust. Ask me how I know.

Your carbine guy should bring a lot more ammo than he thinks he needs.

Bring a lot of water. I drained my camel back every day and could have used more.

This match is a ton of fun. Hopefully I'll see you out there.
