What GAP rifle???

Re: What GAP rifle???

I got the Crusader. If you want a Remington action get the Rock. The Crusaders action is held to a little tighter tolerances and I believe the bolt is one piece now. You can't go wrong with either.

Thanks for your 2 cents

lol.

Re: What GAP rifle???

I had a SCLE GAP rifle, which is basically a rock, and I didn't feel it gave up anything because of the Rem action.

It still hammers.

It is a tough choice, but it is 6 is one half a dozen another thing.

Re: What GAP rifle???

FWIW, all of my custom rifles are built on Rem 700 actions. Like RADcustom said, you're not giving up anything. However, I do not plan on building another rifle on a Rem 700 and will go with a custom action in the future.

I don't think you will regret either, but there will be far fewer variables with the custom action.

Re: What GAP rifle???

I have a Rock / A5 and here is what she does regularly with 168 Federal Gold Medal Match. 3 shots at 100

its .136" I dont know if a custom action can improve much on that. Maybe I am wrong but I dont even handload for it. What could I hope to gain?

Good point.

What are you going to be using the rifle for?

Do you expect to get in the dirt, crawl around & drag it behind you? Or take it to the range and deer-blind?

Do you plan on lugging it around for any long distances? Or keeping it in it's hard case?

Different rifles - different uses.

Yeah, but I have it now, and it's still shooting great.

Naw, I just think Rhett just looked at the price tag for a GAP, then at his bank account, lather, rinse, and repeat...

Re: What GAP rifle???

I have a Rock, built on a Surgeon action. It does everything I need it to do at the range, and it's not uncomfortable to lug around all day. No regrets...

Re: What GAP rifle???

I have a Surgeon with A3-Edge. It comes in at 9.5 lbs. That is the very top of what I want to lug around hunting. I just finished a week of hunting carrrying it about 4 hours/day and thought an 8lb rifle would be better. Simple change, lighter barrel. I guess my point is to pick a light stock because that is much harder to change once you build your rifle.

Then you should just go with the Crusader. It comes in an A5.

I would agree... The purpose of the Rock was to provide a lighter, shorter, dual-use weapon. It's next on my list.
