What is square adjustment range? For example, the Zeiss Victory 6-24x56 only gives a square adjustment range of 57.6. Now, I assume that's a total of 57.6 inches of travel at 100 yards.

Yet, their Conquest 6-20x50 shows a square adjustment range of Elevation 45.7 and Windage 28.8.

I'm more confused than I usually am.

Re: What is Square Adjustment Range?

magnumdood,

I think in Zeiss speak, square adjustment range means equal total adjustment of windage and elevation of 57.6" each.

Of course on the other Zeiss scope , it's a rectangle. Clever those Germans, calling a rectangle a square....

Re: What is Square Adjustment Range?

If in actuality they are a square or rectangle, that's a very good thing (by that I am assuming Zeiss is saying that the full limits of windage adjustemnt is available when the elevation is maxed out at one end or the other, and vice-versa).
Most scopes adjustment range is more of an oval, with the windage getting limited as the elevation reaches its limit (since the erector is moving in a round tube or body).

Clear as mud I hope........

That's what I think it is too. The Elevation & Windage Square is a the largest area square you could trace with the reticle housing travel as less than 100% of the Elevation travel and less than 100% of the windage travel intersect on the 4 internal scope turret and springs/stops. If you used 100% of the Elevation travel, theoretically, you would have a line (0" square inch rectangle), because there would be no room for windage travel.
