I've hunted most of my life and I've only seen one of these alive. The one I saw was while hunting pheasants on a warm fall day in central Kansas. I know they are nocturnal but I never imagined having one so close. I'm a lucky man!

I seen one a few years ago on a afternoon deer hunt in northern Michigan.I was going up hill,he was coming down hill on the same trail.I just stood still, while he was going side to side looking for something to eat.He did not see me till he got about 10 yards from me.He stoped and got low to the ground and hissed, then turned and ran off.
