Rifle Scopes what power for mil dot ranging.

Hello guys,
I just got a new to me Leupold vx-2 3x9x40 mil dot scope. I have not been able to find any info on what power to set it on for mil dot ranging. If anyone knows I would appreciate it.

Second focal plane - it's highest power, so 9.

Thanx. I did some quick ranging with known sizes and distances at 9 but I wanted to make sure.

Its not always necessarily highest power, normally the scope will be set to work on a particular power, I had a cheaper Bushnell that was a 6x24 that ranged on 12x. They even had the 12colored with a different ink on the scope body

I tried Googling and didn't see it jump out at me, so if your tests came out fine then run with it!
