What should I do with my GAP?

I have a dilemma, I have a new unfired GAP Rock that's sort of special. It has a 24" barrel #7 contour Bartlein barrel in 11.25 twist, Cerakoted black, and in a McMillian M40A1-HTG stock with adjustable LOP spacers, Badger M4 bottom metal, and it's marble color molded in 60% olive, 20% black, and 20% brown. Very nice, to say the least.

My problem is the stock is not for me ergonomic wise. I prefer the McMillian A2 and A5, H-S precision like what my Remington 5R's have, or the Sako TRG stocks.

I know this rifle is, or should be a hammer since my other Rock which is in the same configuration but with a 22" barrel and McMillian A2 stock, is definitely a hammer and shoots 3/8-moa if I do my part.

I prefer the 24" barrel over anything shorter.

So, what should I do?

Option 1 - sell the rifle and put the money towards a Crusader with 24" barrel, which is what I've been dreaming about ever since I personally found out what GAP rifle's are all about.

-or-

Option 2 - sell the stock and have either Manners or GAP install a T-2 stock that's been done in 4-color Flectar camo. Which would look awesome with the rifle action and barrel in black.

If I choose option-1, and never shoot the rifle, I'll be wondering for the rest of my life how that rifle would have done in my hands.

If I choose option-2, it might cost me as much to restock the rifle as described above vs. just selling the rifle and getting the Crusader. What kind of price could I get out of that M40A1-HTG stock?

I need more time shooting, as I don't sit and ponder these difficult questions when pulling the trigger.

its really a good stock try it for awhile and see if it grows on you if not sell it and get the one you want.

honestly selling the rifle whole/new is the best financial decision but i would just call gap and ask if they will take it back in trade towards a crusader.

My money says george will hook you up!!

Re: What should I do with my GAP?

I agree, give George a call. If that doesn't work, just order the Crusader while you have him on the phone. Then sell the Rock as is and be patient.

Re: What should I do with my GAP?

Yeah, I was thinking about talking with George since I heard he does sometimes take trade-in's, but before I do that I wanted to ensure I first had funds available if we came to an agreement on a trade-in for the Crusader order.

I really am torn, as this is a beautiful rifle. The only issue I can find with it is the outer edge of the muzzle has some very minor finish wear from the rifle shifting in the hard case and rubbing up against the plastic side of the case. I bought it from a guy who special ordered it about 4-years ago and never shot it because of the lack of ranges in his local area. So, it sat in his safe until I became the lucky owner.

I can send someone a picture via e-mail this weekend if they don't mind posting it for me. Just PM your e-mail address.

Re: What should I do with my GAP?

my thoughts, i would keep what you have and just get a new stock,

all your really getting with a crusader is a templer action and a different stock,

it sounds as if your main beef with the rock is its stock, and if you dont mind running a trued rem action, i would sell the stock for 400 or 500 dollars, and use that money towards a new stock and bedding

just a thought

In my opinion, live the dream. If you have always wanted a particular rifle, then sell the one you have and add some money to that to get the one you always wanted. Nothing like being able to finally scratch an itch. JMHO.
