Fellas i am in the market for a new hunting stock for my beanland custom stiller 6br varmint rifle. I have an hs but i dont really care for it much. I am going to sell the HS and by a new stock, just not sure what one yet. I was just interested in what some of you varmint hunters are using? Lee

Not a varmiter, but I am a deer hunter, I currently use a B&C A2 Medalist and am thinking about switching over to a Mcree because Mcree's stock can fold, and rails etc.

The big problem with making your own is that only after a few stocks one starts getting better and better.
The mould and composite route means one needs to shape a prototype stock made of wood or composite. One then makes a negative mould off the prototype. With glass cloth, resin and filler materials one lays up the mould. A bit like making a fiberglass boat, just two sided. Depending on the mould setup the inlet must be milled out. Quite a bit of work involved.

For a one off, one could also work positive, meaning one can shape a wooden stock to perfect fit and cover that with thin fiberglass cloth and resin. Duracoat over the glass and it will be very durable.

I've got an older 25-06 Sendero barreled action sitting in a Lone Wolf "California Sporter" and i love it. Very light but very rigid ,comes up well , points well.
this rifle is gonna get rebuilt as a 30-06 Ackley with either a 24" heavy fluted Sendero profile or maybe an ABS barrel to make a light weight hunting rifle

Re: what stock do you use for hunting?

The problem is that you are starting off with a heavier rifle. You simply cannot make your rifle "light" with the profile selected. As a result, you should concern yourself with balance rather than weight, which may mean a heavy-ish stock.

I am with SuperSeal on this one. My hunting rifle is a shilen predator with a number 17 shilen. The 17 shilen is the same as a rem 700 varmint as far as contour. My stock is a HS older style varmint. The rifle is chambered in 6mm-BR. The scope is a Older Nikon UCC 5.5-16.5x44. Rifle weighs in at 10.9 pounds. Sounds heavy but really it isn't to bad. Accurate as hell might i add!!! Pure coyote poison!!!!! Lee
