New to the forums and was hoping someone could help me out. Im building a budget varmit gun to just always have in the truck with me for when I see coyotes. I bought a basic remington 700 in 223 and have been doing a couple small upgrades. In the process I picked up a Bell & Carlson stock off of ebay. The only info listed for the auction was that it came off a rem 700 in chambered in 243. It is a standard contour and made for an ADL gun. I have attached some pics and was hoping someone could help me figure out what model of B&C stock it is. Thanks in advance.

Re: What stock is this?

Looks like one of their run of the mill Carblite stocks. An upgrade over factory, but not by much. You could pillar and bed it to the action. That would help a lot, but the hollowed out forend will probably flex a bit. The Medalist line has a bedding block in it.

Wont know untill you get out and put some rounds through it.

Re: What stock is this?

I have one on my old Berreta '06. I really like it; light, stable and feels good. I don't think I have bedded it, probably should. The forend doesn't flex at all, seems to be good quality 'glass.

Re: What stock is this?

I got a rifle on trade a few years back that had one of these stocks on it. I also think it's a Carbelite. Definitely more stiff and rigid than a factory sps stock, but also not of the greatest quality.

Re: What stock is this?

Thanks for the feedback. Gonna assume it's a carblite. Here's my impression so far...

But first a little background. I bought this rifle new as a package deal (r700 adl and cheap 4-12 scope). Out of the box I shot 5 rounds, cleaned it shot 10 rounds, cleaned again and sighted in. Prob could have been broken in better.

As it came, I was getting 1.5 to 2.0 inch groups consistently while shooting cheap UMC 55gr FMJ.

Since then, I've added this stock and a Bushnell 4-18x scope. Got it out today and shot some more UMC and the AE Tactical 55gr FMJ. My best group was a 0.847 at 100yds with 5-7 mph wind.

Figure thats decent given the quality of ammo and for only using a jacket on the hood of my truck as a rest.

Ive ordered 250 rounds of vmax ammo from usaammo and am excitd to see if that tightens the groups up. Too bad its been back-ordered since september...

Re: What stock is this?

That is a early built Carbelite stock with integral sling stud provisions.

All glass, no metal as far as full chassis or the modified pillar/lug block set up.

Re: What stock is this?

absolutely a b&c carbelite. they are good light stocks for a hunting class rifle. they do require bedding and finish is ho hum, but I really like them for the price. they are chopped glass/foam. stocks.

Re: What stock is this?

Anyone have experience on bedding these? Do I need to add pillars or would a glass bed work? Im leaning toward the glass bed and no pillars mainly because I do not have a jig or drill press to drill out the stock accurately.
