Here is the deal. I currently have a GAP .243 Crusader and a Winchester Supergrade in .300WM. I have a trued long action .473 bolt face ready to go, but I can't decide which way to go. This will be a tactical/hunter using a Manner's T, Williams bottom metal, and a Bartlein barrel at 25-26" medium to heavy palma. I am mainly a plains hunter and shoot paper frequently, but don't compete in any fashion, yet. I hunt wide open spaces for whitetail, mulies, and I am anticipating a CO pronghorn hunt this season. An elk hunt is in my future as well.
What I have in mind (after some discussion with Moon at GAP) is one of these:
6.5-284
6.5x55 Sweede
.280AI
I know that with the 6.5-284 there will be short barrel life, but very effective. The Sweede is slower, but potent. I know the 280AI is good, but to what range?
I reload all my ammo, so no problem here.
Help me decide by telling me what you know about these cartriges.
Thanks, Jason
