Budget means different things to different people. The above mentioned SS is a great value at $300.00. If you can swing it the 3-9 Super Sniper at $599.00 is all the scope you need on a loaded. My M1A NM and LMT MWS both have one.

Look for a slightly used Leupold Mark 4.

Go to midway and jump on one of the Weaver 3-10 mil mil tacticals while they are on sale.Lowlight recently reviewed it and gave a thumbs up.A friend got one last week and its pretty impressive for the money and made in japan.

Super sniper 10X, bushnell 10X mil mil. Either buy new or keep your eyes peeled for a used one that isn't beat to hell. Bother are good scopes for not a lot of money.

Vortex Viper is also a great alternative. I have been waiting on the PST's for quite some time and I just got a Remington 700 223 VS in left hand. So, in the mean time I got a Vortex Viper 6 x 24 optic for 399.00 from Midway. I am surprised at how good the scope is. The optics are clear and the clicks are very secure so all in all it was worth the money.
